A quick question on gearing and wheels

I just got the Axial ScX10 2 kit. The motor I will be using is a 30 turn motor. What should I use for a spur and pinion gear? Also I want some beadlocks on this for wheels what would you guys suggest. A plus for a red rim!

You can use the stock spur and pinion to start and monitor the motor temperature.

I would try to fit a trailmaster sport 550 21T and a hobbywing 1080.

For wheels, you can go full $$ with Locked up RC, SSD or VP.
I went cheap with eBay wheels but dressed them in Scale hardware from SSD and Locked Up along with VP hubs.
It's a 2.2 size but they are available in 1.9.
Bonus red rings!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1ce25f1a69.jpg

56/11,12,13,14,15........
Depends on how much wheelspeed you want and use a temp gun to keep temp down

56/13 would be my choice

Re: A quick question on gearing and wheels

56/13 is stock gearing, a good starting place imo. I run a 27t and 35t motors on 3s with zero issues with stock gearing.

Would these work? Also would it be worth it in getting the hub /rotors as well?

SSD wheels work great and last. Standard SLW hubs.

SSD wheels are the easiest to mount. Quality is excellent.

I also have a half-dozen sets of 'chankquish' knock-offs and all work and look very well. This ebay seller is super reliable, and ships fast even if it comes from Hong Kong:

Most all styles are less than $50 for a set. The alloy ones are easy mounting, the steelies not so much. ;-)

For easy success stick with proline or Pitbull and CI foams.

Start with stock gearing and try it, adjust from there. Some like a slower crawl speed, some like a faster trail speed. Stock Axial is a 35T motor, so a 30T will be just a shade faster. 27T is very common for them, but can gear down a bit to bring wheelspeed back down. The HobbyWing 1080 esc makes dialing in control very easy, regardless of motor speed or gearing. 3S power is most common, but 2s can work for a faster setup if you want to crawl.

I have this setup in my xj kit

Re: A quick question on gearing and wheels

Don't forget...a 550-can motor turns slower than a 540, so a 21T 550 is about the same as a 27T 540.
I always forget about this when spec'ing a new motor or discussing gearing.

Those fancy anodized (or painted?) rims are going to get scratched to hell in the first rock garden you come across.

I run a Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster Pro 27T 540 motor in my SCX10 II. Even with the 2-speed transmission that has a higher gear for cruising on flat ground, the motor doesn't overheat. And it torque-twists the hell out of the soft suspension, so I think the extra torque from a 550 motor would be overkill.
