SCX10 II with Wrangler JK Body

Hello there, I'm new in the forum and in the world of crawling. I'm from Spain, where the RC crawling is just taking off now.

This is my first build and also my first RC car:

Chassis: SCX10 II Raw Builders Kit
Motor: Hobbywing XeRun Justock 3650SD G2.1 21.5 T
ESC: Hobbywing XR10 Justock ESC
Tires: Injora 1.9"
Rims: Alloy Beadlock 1.9"
Body: Jeep Wrangler JK
Servo: 25 Kg
Transmitter: Flysky FS-GT5 2.4G 6CH

I can provide the product links if needed. Let me know what you think, just bear in mind it is my first build and some things are not final. I still need to get a rear bumper, and might as well get the front one.

I've been working on this build for 2 months now before going to the trail and make a maiden ride.

She looks great.

My first suggestion is to get the ride height a bit lower.
As she sits now, she is going to be super tippy/top heavy.

You can get the ride height down by lowering the body to the frame rails, and lowering the suspension.

The tires grip fairly well, I guess I can't expect a high quality tyre for the price but I think they will do for now. I can always upgrade to better tires in the future.

These are the tires I use, from Aliexpress (Injora): https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32788016520.html

The wheels are heavy and the material used looks high quality. For the price I don't think it can get any better than this. It helps the rig stay on the ground and get the traction it needs.

Also from Aliexpress (Team FC): https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32981349430.html

Yes, I don't like how high it is right now. But I've found that this is the lowest it can be without destroying the interior of the body (it already required to cut some bits). If I want a lower ride I will have to cut a huge whole below the interior of the body shell.

How can I lower the suspension? Using the spring adjustment in the shocks?

you really need to do something about the ride height, i did the same on two of my jk 2dr builds. went through all the trouble to make the stance right only to find out that i did not like the performance... so i sold it! :lmao:

i plan to build a better one soon. here is the stance of my old build...

http://vlozity.net/akumu/cfx/akumu-cfx-14.png

http://vlozity.net/akumu/cfx/akumu-cfx-15.png

it is not sitting on a scx10v2 chassis, i used an MST CFX instead. cutting up an scx10v2 presented a lot of problems. anyways, i used shorter shocks, about 70 to 80mm if i am not mistaken. I removed the center console and carved that area then retro fitted the console back in.

hth!

Yeah I've been cutting more today and the current height has improved. Being a hard body it makes me feel bad about destroying it though.

Thanks!

That looks amazing! I've been removing more plastic today from the interior and now it sits lower. I will post more photos when I'm finished, although I don't think I can't achieve the height you had in that build.

I was planning on getting new shocks because these, for some reason, don't seem to work well and they have leaks at some point. I may go with the shorter shocks like you said.

Thanks "thumbsup"

Carefully cut up interior and remake with styrene and then paint as needed.

Shorter shocks, internal limit the shocks, raise frame side mounting points, softer springs maybe? Heavy styrene body might need thicker shock oil too.

Re: SCX10 II with Wrangler JK Body

I managed to lower the shell by cutting most of the interior. These are new pictures from today.

The performance of this build surprises me. It can climb where a TRX4 chassis can without having a 2-speed box using the minimum speed. It couldn't go up a hill with sand though.

I need to get a battery that can fit in the space I have, which limits the offer to a 2200 mAh capacity.

I'll change the stock shocks to 80mm probably in the future.

I agree that it’s hard to cut a hard body but is a necessary evil unless spending big $$$.

Here’s my jk on SCXii ., cutting required

Those are the small 1.55 rock beasts. Bottom of Jeep is level with rock guards.

Here’s the same Jeep on my trx4.., large tires but again body level with chassis

Here’s my small SCXii Tj build., with cutting body to get it low...
My SCXii rc4wd blazer., spent money on a GCM tranny (no cutting).

Those are some cool rigs!

Yeah it's a pain, but mine looks better now with all the cutting. Still WIP though.

I just noticed one of my front shocks is dead, probably because of another oil leak. I've been having problems with the front shocks since I assembled the kit, I might have to get new ones already.

I've been working also on a LED lightbar for the roof. I also managed to fit a 5800 mAh battery at the rear seats. I will try this tomorrow and see how it behaves with the new weight.

Thanks., what an addicting and expensive hobby;)

I tend to run all my rigs with only a drop of oil to keep it lubricated....

Enjoying your rigs transformation[emoji108]

Re: SCX10 II with Wrangler JK Body

New photos from today. I placed the huge 5800 mAh battery (3s) on the rear seats. The weight and CG differs from before (obviously) but it runs well anyway. It needs more weight on the front axle, so I'm using another battery placed in the battery tray so it balances the weight of the rig.

This is not final because I plan to keep adding more things like bumpers and light bars and I'll have to see which is the best position for the battery.

The crawler ran great for more than an hour and I think it will work for almost 4 hours with this huge battery.

Pics as promised.

I bought the bumpers already, now the wait until they arrive.

In the meantime, I'm thinking of getting new shocks but I don't know if I should get 80 mm or stay with the stock 90 mm.

Re: SCX10 II with Wrangler JK Body

80 mm will get your rig sitting lower. If the shock body is shorter, there may be issues with links hitting in various spots. I.e. panhard bar/ drag link.

However I find rigs without a lot of articulation tend to go more places than those that do.

I typically run 70mm out back and stock 90mm up front.

The shocks are destroyed. They keep leaking oil and they make noise.
I had to get new ones, they will arrive in a week or two.

New pictures with the new components already installed and some Easter Eggs at the back.

- Internal spring aluminium shocks
- Front and rear bumpers with LED lights
- New battery at the back, hidden underneath the body.
- Front and back "windows" added
