Default SSD Chub + Ar44 solid Axle Issue

Hello everyone,

I've got the scx10 ii Raw builder's kit which features "
  • AR44™ Single Piece Axles:"

2 x SSD00140 SSD RC SCX10 II Brass Weights (2)

1 x SSD00144 SSD RC SCX10 II Pro Aluminum Knuckles (Black)

1 x SSD00145 SSD RC SCX10 II Pro Aluminum C Hubs (Black)

1 x SSD00146 SSD RC SCX10 II Pro Aluminum Rear Lockouts (Black)

I've ordered the above parts and it looks like the chubs front/rear are designed to replace the non-solid axle...

what I'm trying to figure out is if i can just buy "https://www.amainhobbies.com/ssd-rc-scx10-ii-diamond-pro-axle-case-ssd00211/p710193" this case and use the existing parts with new case to bolt-on the chubs from SSD?

I did a search and didn't quite find my answer, Amain tech isn't able to confirm.

link to pictures trying to explain the above: https://photos.app.goo.gl/uKvyReaUX1ABLy2L8

thanks!

Yes.

Just order that diamond Pro and use everything else you have.

thanks for the quick reply,

I am thinking SSD pro44 below, will that just bolt-up with the stock stuff (diff driveshafts and all)? Sorry for the all the questions, just second guessing myself since my first round of ordering didn't quite all work together.

Also yes.

The Pro44 and Diamond Pro are the same in function. I have done what you are doing with the Pro44 as I prefer that style over the diamond Pro.

One last note - If you order the rear Pro44 axle (SSD00209 - SSD RC SCX10 II Pro44 Rear Axle Case), you will not need the rear lockouts listed in your first post (SSD RC SCX10 II Pro Aluminum Rear Lockouts (Black)).

Lockouts are used when the front and rear axles use the same center housing and shafts. The front axle gets C-hubs and knuckles adding width to the axle shafts. Since the rear does not have any steering pieces (C-hub and knuckles) it gets lockouts to add width to match the front with C-hub and knuckles. Since the Pro44 rear is made specifically for the rear, it already is wider. The benefit is a cleaner more realistic look... much cleaner looking than using lockouts.

you could also order the other version of the ar44 axle housing and use all the parts you got
if i were in your shoes i would buy one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/362336251571
and keep the rear stock or get 2 of those and use all the parts you bought but i think the one piece rear looks alot better

Okay, good to know.

I'll be able to return the rear lockouts pieces it seems.

Would i still be able to bolt on the rear brass weights?

Just looking at the pictures, i don't see how they'd bolt on without the rear lockouts?

My oppinion:

Stick with the SSD axle housings. They have metal tubes and you can add heavier HD diff covers down the road for added weight if desired. The end package is heavier and more durable than the stock all plastic axles for a little more money. The product is a great balance of cost and durability by mixing plastic housings with metal tubes and metal diff covers if desired.

Just buy two of the axle housings ( SSD00207 - SSD RC SCX10 II Pro44 Axle Case) you will be able to use everything you already have including the lockouts and weights on the rear. This housing can be used for front and rear with lockouts.

For clarity, ditch the rear SSD axle case and buy 2 of the one your were going to use on the front.

Sorry, I didnt realize the one piece axles had integrated link mounts. You will need link mounts. You can get aluminium SSD mounts to match the metal tubes, or I'm sure you could pick up someone's plastic take offs from previous SXC10 II axles for free or close to it.

I'd go with SSD as I have always done. If you've already spent more than expected, DM me your address and I'll send you some stock plastic Axial mounts for free.

I didn't see this answered, but will the SSD brass weights (SSD 00140) fit the SSD diamond axles? I have a set of diamond axles and would be nice to add a little weight in rear to counter the brass chubs I have.

The OP will be able to use the brass weights (SSD 00140) because he is not using the rear specific axle tubes. by using the same tubes as the front along with SSD rear lockouts (SSD 00146) he will be able to bolt these up. They need to use the two raised screw areas found on the lockouts I've listed.

If you are doing the same and using two of the same Diamond axles front and rear with lockouts on the rear, you will be fine. If you have the rear specific tubes that are longer and don't need the lockouts I listed above, you will have nothing to bolt the brass weights (SSD 00140) to.

I believe that you can use the brass weights for the Trail King (SSD 00351) made for the rear axle on any of the rear Diamond or Pro44 tubes full width/no lockout tubes. I ordered a set in hopes that I am right. I will try and assemble them tonight for confirmation. I have the Pro44 rear axle with metal tubes and am hoping to use (SSD 00351) to add weight to the rear.

To clarify: SSD 00140 will only bolt to SSD00144, SSD00148 or SSD00146 which are black or silver knuckles and lockouts.

I am curious. Did this work? I have the Pro44 rear axle with metal tubes and was wondering if using SSD 00351 is an option.
