Default Pinion size

Are these compatible with my scx10.2? Can’t find pinion shaft diameter anywhere.

The mentioned 3.175 mm must be the shaft diameter as it is on holmes motors as well. Nice set!

They have 32p teeth. Axial speaks about 48p with the AX30569 on their site for th SCX10 III. I'm used to 32p at Axials on RR10 and SCX10 II usually.

So it will work on a 10.2 but not 3?

I think it should work for both the 2 and 3

From what I've seen the 10.3 manual lists 48P gears but people mentioned it actually having 32P which is what Axial has always used I believe. they had a bunch of errors in their 10.3 manual.

Most 1/10 scale motors have a 1/8" or 3.175 MM shaft, unless you've sourced a new motor with a 5mm shaft which you'd probably know about.

What motor do you have?

both use 1/8" shafts so you're good

So I finally got around to playing around with these gears. I was going to run the 9t but the motor wouldn’t slide close enough to the spur. Tried the 10t, same thing, finally I got a decent mesh with the 11t and it’s still faster than I’d like.

Can a larger diameter spur fit in the stock case? Thinking about ordering one of these

I am running an 87t spur/12t pinion in my SCX10 and it is definitely not too fast. Current motor is 27t Holmes 550 sport on 2s. Definitely a good crawling setup, gobs of torque. But not a ton of wheel speed, top end is about a fast walking pace.

Where did you get that spur gear?

No idea, previous owner installed it. Along with a 20t pinion and 550 12t motor...fried like bacon lol.

When I was planning on swapping up things to ‘gear down’ I shopped for that size spur not knowing I already had one and from what I recall there were quite a few options. I think the on I was going to get was Hot Racing.

Im only seeing 56t mainly. Found a 60t then a 64t but now I can’t find the 64t again... I don’t understand why this isn’t more available.

If you’re looking for an 87 here’s one. I’d confirm the pitch or whatever the “p” stands for though. I just googled “Axial 87t Spur Gear”

That is a 48p(pitch) spur gear...

It is what I run in the rigs I need geared low... make sure you get a 48p pinion too... 12-14t is my recomendation

Default Pinion size

I already bought this set of 32p pinions I’d like to make use of but if I have to swap pitches I guess I will. I think the 87t would almost be too much. Hell, the stock 56t would be fine with a 9t pinion but it won’t reach lol. Seems 32p isn’t as common

To reduce wheel speed underdrive bevel gears are an option. 10.2 stock are 30T/8T. VP has 33T/8T fore instance #VPS08331. Doing this on both axels is not wrong to gear down the drivetrain lately. So you get the torque where you need it.

Yeah, those have definitely been on my radar since they came out. It’ll help with torque twist and relieve a little stress off the the drive shafts and transmission too but the price has kinda kept me from picking up a set for each axle. Thought about doing the rear first then the front at some point
