Quick little crawl sesh with a couple buddies and I must say, this truck really impressed me. Having no springs really helps it with climbing/sidehilling and still keep all travel. I can definitely tell it does a lot better now. Win-win in my books. We set up a little course with about 10 gates. Running with a Trailwalker and a linked TF2.

Anyways, I did it and I really really like it. Still have the same amount of travel, yet a lot lower. I would say at least 1” lower. Shocks do ride bottomed out, but I don’t think it’ll hurt anything(?)
I was also able to lower the body a few notches and still keep full turn left/right with no rubbing. Did away with everything on the back as well, it was unnecessary weight plus I think it looks better this way.

I’ll be taking it for a run either tomorrow or Sunday to have a final verdict.

Let me know what you guys think!

Yeah, I seen that but I haven’t personally experienced it. I was purposely climbing steeper than usual stuff to see if this would happen, but it just walked up and over. I think all that weight up front helps keep the front shocks bottomed out.

I could be wrong, but that’s what I feel like.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about it. Just have to either learn to solder metal or find a way to bolt it together.

Well, I went for another outing in the 10ii and the 1080 is being funky. When I go to turn it on, it doesn’t do the 2 beeps for the 2S battery nor will it do the long beep for the throttle. All I get is power to the steering servo. I think it may be fried which is unfortunate and very surprising considering I’ve had it for right around a month. nothing I do in the programming helps.

Any thoughts before I order a new ESC?

Maybe someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the beep signal comes from the motor. Have you tried recalibrate the esc and possibly rebinding the radio/receiver?

No, I haven’t. I will do that ASAP. Thanks Fricker!

Turns out it was the motor, the ESC is fine. Hooked it up to ol trusty’s RC4WD motor and everything worked. Not sure if I want to get another Holmes judging off how long it lasted compared to an even cheaper RC4WD 45T, but I want to try a Crawlmaster lol. Hmm, Decisions decisions.

Funny thing is I had the opposite experience. My rc4wd motor gave up the factory smoke in one run while my Trailmaster is going strong, 2 years later.

LOL.

I’m just going to grab a Crawlmaster or two and call it a day. I’ve been wanting to try a 5-slot for a while now.

Finally got around to ordering another motor. Been wanting to try the CrawlMaster, so picked up a sport 10T. Also got a metal servo horn, some motor leads, and a 27T motor for the TRX4.

Man I just realized you sent me a message on IG. Sorry I missed it.

Glad to hear you got it figured out! Good choice on the Crawlmaster Sport! These are great motors for the price!

Ah it’s okay. I’m glad I figured it out too, and I’m kinda glad it was the motor rather than the ESC, gives me an excuse to get the Crawlmaster lol. I was going to get the 13T, but I think the extra speed the 10T will give will be good. Plus, It’s not like I can’t re-gear if it’s too fast.

Well, a few changes have been made to the truck since the last update.

The biggest difference is the body change. I got a Honcho body from a trade with one of my buddies along with a set of Honcho RTR tires/wheels. Original plan was to put the honcho body on the TRX4, but after taking the rear cage off the honcho body, I swapped bodies. With there being no cage, I had to come up with a new mounting system. I was going to just do it like I had it for the Bronco, but the back wall on the honcho is so flimsy I couldn’t drill holes in it without it ripping. So to solve that issue, I designed some simple brackets that screw into the chassis plates and the SUV body post that comes with the RBK(glad I kept that!) just friction fits into the 3D printed piece. This gives the ability to drill two holes in the roof for body posts. Problem solved.

I also got the Crawlmaster 10T in today, along with a new servo horn due to me loosing the tiny clamping screw. Got both of those installed, and I feel way better now having a metal horn. I’m excited to test out the new motor, but I have to wait until the new axle gears come in to test it. Chipped 17 teeth on the sintered ring gear. the pinion is perfectly fine lol. Ordered up the SSD hardened steel 30T/8T ring/pinion along with the 6-bolt locker. Also got a 9T, 10T and 11T pinion gear to play around with the motor because I’m sure the stock 13T will be too fast.

Got the axle gears and pinions in today. The SSD gears are buttery smooth, no shimming done.

Tried the 9T pinion, it barely didn’t fit so I tried the 10T. It works, but the gear mesh is a little looser than I prefer, so I’ll keep and eye on it when I go to test it. In order to get the motor far enough over for the 10T to work, I had to take the outside ring off the Crawlmaster.

EDIT: The 10T pinion wasn't getting enough bite so I swapped to an 11T. Still has great creep-ability but also speed to pop up over rocks.

Okay, so we are back to the Bronco body lol. Decided I didn’t really like the Honcho body, too weak without the cage. I’ll grab some pictures tomorrow, too dark to get any decent picture.

Finally got to be able to crawl with this rig again. Been a while since I’ve been out.

Heard about a Class 1 and 2 Comp course in September, so I gotta make sure this truck is ready by then!

Anyways, enjoy the pictures.

This rig has taken a hard right and is now heading for the September comp. Going to get quite a few changes along the way. I'll update as I progress

It probably is a little early to start doing stuff to it, but I want as much time as possible to be able to get used to driving it in its new form.
