Default Scx 10ii worth it

I am new to rc and crawling and I have a local deal to get a scx10II for a decent price, I’ve also been looking into the Trx 4. My question is, are companies still making a lot of after market parts for the scx10II or is it phasing out ?

The scx10.2 is pretty well supported still, I wouldn’t hesitate getting into one right now

You can still build an SCX10ii with all aftermarket parts

Two versions of my SCX10ii, now with Sherpa kit added SSD axles, dravtech shocks

There's still plenty of parts right now for it and i do think it's an okay starting rig.

scx10 iii is awesome and if you know you'll be upgrading and working on the rc... i'd spring for the newer version personally.

Did you look? Parts for the 10ii are all over pretty much everywhere lol. The 10ii is still used by many many people.

I just picked up my first 10.2, I got the 10.2 with the cherokee body . I currently have a heavily upgraded ecto. I just know you can do so much with the 10.2 as far as upgrades

Yes, definitely get a scx10.2. Still lots of aftermarket support out there for it. You can't go wrong with a scx10.2 or a trx4. I love my scx10.2. I'm thinking of getting a second one and building if I can find time.

I’m still leaning towards this purchase. I have a defender at the moment but I think I need something else for real crawling

I’m making the purchase this weekend, what are some good first mods you guys did for your scx 10.2?

Depends on which one you start with, and what’s been done to it previously. You did say it was second hand right?

Some models came with dog bone front axles, plastic links and pivot balls, as well as sintered axle gears and plastic transmission gears. All of which would be a good idea to upgrade before they fail.

Also the stock shocks are less than desirable, so that should be taken into consideration.

It’s a barley used Cherokee, 2 batteries and a charger and he wants 325$ I’m offering $300.
Not sure if it’s a good deal or not but it seems to be one of the better I’ve found. It’s either that or build a kit

$300 is pretty good imo.

That model has universals already, nice bonus. It also has steel links, although they are only 4mm and will end up bent if you’re actually crawling and not just trailing.

On mine the first thing that went was the plastic servo horn, then the next run after I replaced it the plastic servo gear stripped. I didn’t have any other failure until I sold it to a buddy, then he stripped the plastic trans gears, and shortly after a sintered ring gear.

Good luck on the purchase

axial is pretty good about suporting old platforms and you can bet china isent gona give up on anything that makes money
that sead i can still get parts for the og scx10s so the 10.2 should be suported for the next 10 years atleast and some parts carry over from model to model like 10.2 and 10.3 axle gears and driveshafts and stuff so those parts will be around for a vary long time
