I'm supposed to be "working from home" You guys were smart to release while you have 80% of people as a captive audience.

The President update: All americans stay home from work and watch what Horizon/Axial/Ascender has in store. MAGA (Make Axial Great Again).

I look forward to you guys that are getting one to build it. I'll try and get back here to answer some questions but work is swamped with more cool stuff coming out in the future

Thanks for chiming in. Good answers and it makes sense of things.

This truck looks like a lot of fun so I'm sure it was a blast to be a part of the creation! I really believe you guys are injecting the new life, new blood, and new R&D into Axial that it needed.

You being a Toyota fan and all, I would have thought this would be a Tacoma body and the masses would have gone nuts (in a good way)! Just a hunch that dealing with Toyota has the potential to be a PITA though.

4. Does that mean new axles or are you retrofitting AR44's to this new chassis? I personally think the AR44's are good enough to not need an upgrade.

#OhHushIDon'tBite

FYI I preordered mine as soon as I woke up this morning.

That's great! Horizon is definitely putting in a good effort to do just that...and I approve this message.

They went through the effort to create separate portal and non-portal ratios for the transmission and included this in the manual. Clearly there are plans for a non-portal version of the truck in the future (possibly some of the RTR variants).

Super sweet, love the gearing options...planning ahead!

I doubt you'll ever see the 3 gear again. My guess for an RTR would be a single speed, dig-less version.

The chassis rails while similar to the Vaterra rails are drastically different. Horizon Hobby held the patent on the 2 piece adjustable rail, so we were able to tap into that to create a 2 piece adjustable frame rail set. These rails allow for more up travel front and rear over the old SCX10 II rails using the portal axles. Even more with a straight axle.

That's what it looks like, thanks!

1. A Jeep....yes. Though many of you hard core guys are tired of Jeeps, the Jeep has been Axials number one seller by far over any other types we've released in the past. Add to the fact that Jeep has been an awesome partner it was a no brainer for us. The good news for you haters is that we include an extra set of body mounts in various sizes and shapes so you can mount any non-Jeep body you want...

5. Why the midnight video launch? Frankly, our International partners tend to go live on their Thursday which is usually much earlier than our Thursday, so why not...thats the simple reason

7. Overdrive: The Overdrive gears we offer for the Capra are drop ins on the SCX10 III

This project has been a blast to work on with Matt Kearney and the rest of our team that all had input.

Thanks for popping in Rich, all good news!

I got ideas for the Jeep body, and as said it's easy swap if you'd rather have something different. Midnight video launch works well and makes perfect sense considering the location of partners.

Capra OD gears in the front for sure!

With the way the interior is detailed. It would be nice if the roof was removable.

Especially with the cool cage.

I think this is the first new scaler that I can remember in a while that doesn't have a receiver box. I know the VS4-10 Limited didn't, but besides that I don't know of any.

It's interesting that the press photos don't show the body posts installed, but after second look (because of reading Rich's comment about including extra body posts) the holes are definitely there. So body clips it is and I'm fine with that.

I was thinking exactly that. Leave the roof in the front, and expose the cage in the rear.

It might? Matt's (SBG) video showed a tiny receiver box, but his was pre-production.

Interesting. I didn't see any in the press photos. I haven't seen his video in its entirety either.

Not a big deal. Plenty of receiver boxes out there if you want to fit one.

EDIT: Oops. A receiver box is listed as a part for the SCX10 III. It also shows up in the manual. But I guess they didn't install it for the press photos.

@Jato,
There are hidden body posts that use clips. Or, different posts to run other bodies.

Again, I need to RTFM! I keep forgetting the manual is already online.

The body clip methodology is a cool idea!

Any idea if the portal axles will be a drop-in interchange with the Scx10-2?
I realize the pinion ratio will likely need to be changed.

I ask because my UMG-10 could really use a set of portals (because Unimog), and if I build the Scx10-3 Jeep it makes more sense (to me) to put those portals under the Unimog, and for the Jeep to have the straight axles.

In any case I'll be pre-ordering one soon.

Shouldn't be too difficult to make it work! UMG with Axial portals, now that's sexy.

Little model paint on the engine etc....

Oh wait its a kit? Nice.
But if the non-portal axles are coming later... Would they be included in another kit? Or is this it and we buy the non-portals separate and sell off the portals?

I like that we can build it either with or without the dig and 2 speed though.
Might go 2 speed but I'm not serious enough to need dig.

Really is great to see what happens when an axial and ascender have a kid though haha

My wife thought I was nuts/obnoxious staying up til midnight. In retrospect I didnt really need to, but it was something exciting going on while we are all couped up hiding from the ick.

Thanks Rich and Matt! Really great teamwork here!

Best use of potential Coronavirus $1000 cash payment:

SCX10 III Jeep
+
Axial UMG10 Unimog
+
axle swap between kits

(or possibly, transmission/skid/axles swap)

Great job Axial. 👍🏼

While the 2 speed is meh, it’s awesome to see it can be set up with or without it.

Same for the lockable diffs, but I like the dig feature.

I was hoping for narrower “Currie” axles, but these new axles are sweet.

I like the Jeep body, don’t have a Jeep (Willies truck doesn’t count) bodied rig in my collection...yet.

Tires and wheels are ok, but they’ll more than likely get sold PDQ.

Love the new frame design, shocks, plastics, and transmission.

If I had to give it a score between 1 & 10, I’d give it a sold 8.

GA Dawg, available to pre-order.

I'm loving the 4-door Jeep body with interior cage, driver, 2-speed and would try stock parts first but I've got beadlocks, tires and foams just in case!

I could also do without the 2-speed as I may have already said. But I bet marketing fought for two speed because of Traxxas. For the rest of us, just think that the transmission would be more compact, lighter and more trouble free with less stuff going on inside. I'm sure the 2-speed will be just fine, but simpler is theoretically more reliable and that's all I meant by that statement.

I also love the "Tamiya-inspired" driver with the cowboy hat. Maybe it's not inspired by Tamiya, but to me it looks like it and I love that. Some old school fun thrown in there.

The product page is up on Axial's site now.
