Default Pinions

Just a quick question, what pitch or mod does Axial use? I'm assuming it is either 48 pitch or Mod 1, but looking at the Wraith site i have no idea. I'll continue looking in these threads but if any knows that would be awesome.

Same as all the other Axial trucks, 48 pitch.

I figured it was one of the two. Thanks for the help. All i was finding was talk about the gearing people plan on using. Thanks again.

with the above info I was thinking of getting a bunch of pinions since I've generally just run with the factory gearing in my previous cars (never much of a racer, just went to have fun). So what i was thinking is I could get the Axial 13 and 14t pinions and then get the RRP 48P odd and even steel pinion sets. This would have me set up with pinions from 13 up to 26 teeth. Also get the 87t spur gear and I think that would give me quite a wide range of gearing options with possibly some overlap (still need to do some math). Later on I could get the OD/UD gears for even more options.

Ok, so i made a quick excel spreadsheet with all the gearing options with pinions from 13-26 and spur gears of 80 and 87. I also did the OD/UD gearing so i could get the final drive ratio. What i did was multiply the spur/pinon ratio with the Diff ratio to get the FD. Is this correct? If so the final drive could range anywhere from 8.52 with the 26/80 pinion/spur and the 13/36 diff gears up to a 22.14 with the 13/87 pinion/spur and the 13/43 diff gears. It seems like its final drive is about half of what i've seen for some rock crawlers even with the lowest gearing possible.

Well after messing around with my spreadsheet some more at lunch I have it's speed for each gearing option in per 1k rpm. I could figure out the rollout I think. As you might have noticed I'm getting bored as this deployment comes to an end.
-edit-
Now i have rollout figured out. So much useless figures on this spreadsheet. lol

So Assuming my math is right, which i doubt it is, the slowest you could gear the wraith with optional gearing is 25mph and the fastest you could go would be north of 65mph. This is with a motor spinning at 34k rpm, Off road drag racing anyone??

Assuming your using a 2000kv motor on 2s and reach 14.8k rpm your speed could range anywhere from a hair under 11mph to a little over 28mph. Again this is ranging from a 13/87 combo with the UD gears up to a 26/80 combo on the overdrive gears and every thing in between. If anyone wants to see the sheet I'll email or send it via pm

No, you need to calculate in the gear ratio of the trans too.

spur/pinion (87/13=6.69:1) X trans (2.6:1) X ring/pinion (13/43=3.30:1)=57.56:1

My math may be little rusty, but I'm prety sure that's right.

Well, With that reduction, it definately lowered speeds quite a bit, still thinking of getting a slower motor though for when i want to do some crawling.

Like a great man once said, "Gear Down and Volt Up!!!" Also a good motor makes the night and day diffrence, a good handwound will have smoother low end control and better drag brake ability I'd say a 30-35t HHH on 4S Lipo would get the wheels spinning when needed and still have good low-end.

Yeah, my current plan is to get the HH Revolver S on backorder. If it isn't in by July I'm going to get the . At the moment all I have are some 2S 5000mah batteries so with the Revolver S and stock gearing I'm looking at about 6mph tops. I do also plan on getting a couple sets of pinions so I will have 13-26 tooth pinions to choose from. But when i get a couple 4S packs that will bring the speed up to about 13mph. Gear back down and have torque to spare!
