T-Money's Wraith: Ultra4!!!

It made it 3 hours before J-rad and I along with our good pal Jim Beam decided to start changing things up. We knew that the upper links from the XR10 where a direct fit for the upper links on the Wraith and I happen to have a whole set of custom links off my original XR10 chassis. Our first goal was to see if we could get the lower links off the XR10 to work (we didn't want miss matched links, ya know). We did have to change the rod ends on the short side to the short Axial bent ends to keep the length in check. After getting the lower links done we bolted them up to check for clearance. They are very close to rubbing but it does clear with out any issues. The uppers went on without any fuss at all being that they are the same as the XR10 uppers. We stepped back and took a fresh look at it and realized that orange and green don't work together. I wasn't planning on changing the paint so soon but the color clash was too much. I didn't want to detour from the original paint till I could get some new panels so we just masked off the green areas and gave them a quick shot of orange. Still has a stock look to it but it works much better with the new links

Pics of the progress (sorry bout the phone pics)

Good call on the color

I'm putting my new links on tonight, I'll probably get a half inshallah of wheelbase back after how much the stockers have bowed out.

Chaotic Crawlers 06-22-2011 04:55 PM

Gheyyyyyyy!!!!!:ror:

You should put some chaotic stickers on it now!

Thanks for for helping me make my decision to buy one sooner than anticipated!:flipoff:

I guess I better get going on my tj build so I can plan my wraith purchase!!!"thumbsup"

Now I regret not prepaying for one!

Thanks not as flashy as yours but it works.
I've been rock'n the burnt orange on most my rides for a while now.

As Mac said, they are custom, but they have identical dimensions to the Axial machined links.
I wanted to show that you could use the Axial machined links all the way around if you wish.
"thumbsup"

Early stages of my driver Dirty Mike has been working on. You can't tell but Dirty extended his legs a bit to make him a much better fit for the Wraith. He's has surgery this weekend to have his arms attached.

I will get some better pics of the rig this weekend too

I've made a few more changes to the rig last week to get it ready for Decent into Darkness.
Chaotic Crawlers came through with a beautiful set of steering rods to keep the Wraith tracking straight and true. I went with the Chaotic Crawlers over the VP ones mostly cause I think the Chaotic Crawlers set looks more scale, not so big and cartoony.
I installed a Tekin 45t and I'm running 20/87 on the gears. It performed real good but I'd like to get a bit more wheel speed out of it as this setup slowed it down quite a bit.
It has kinda bugged me that the Wraith didn't have beadlocks, Kaleb had a set of XR10 beadlocks he was not going to use so I snagged them from him. I then had RockDrifter (JJ) narrow them up to 1" wide. I then mounted up some Proline TSL's to get a scale look and a bit more performance. I'm totally loving the look and having a blast bombing the Wraith around.

And just so those dang Tuna's can't throw a "Prove it" post at me, I've got pics to prove it

Nice pic's the rig looks tuff.

Did a bit more work to the Wraith this weekend.
I softened up the front a bit with some Losi white springs this should help it handle the rough stuff and help it in the low speed technical sections.
I also moved the seats forward about 1/4" this is just to better fit the driver, Wild Willy.
I've never been a big fan of the stock rear tail lights the Wraith came with. The buckets are nice and look good, I just didn't like them hanging out under the rear tube. They just didn't have a very "finished" look to them, so I set out to flush mount the tail light into the rear panels. I think it looks much better now.

I almost forgot,...

Being a big Toyota fan I had to have the Yota grill. It wasn't too hard to pull off, just a bit of trimming and some light relocation.
Of course I wasted no time dirtying up my new mods

Mixed thing up a bit last night. Threw on some MT TTC Baja Claws. I'm sure the grip will be a bit less than the TSL's, but I just had to try them, besides their HUGE!! I also decided to throw some new paint on it. Just wanted a new look. She still needs some decals but I'll get to that later tonight after a few shots of Jim.

Love it T looks sick and the lights great mod.

neillarson 07-30-2011 07:18 AM

Love the paint job. How are the Claws working out. I have them and the TSLs but am partial to the TSLs, all I will run in TTCs.

NaZ-T 07-31-2011 03:11 PM

Not sure on the performance of the TTC's I drove it a bit yesterday but had servo issues early on so I didn't get a feel for them. I'll be running it again this Wednesday, so I should be able to give a better comparison later this week.

So how did these tire work out for you?

Agama 08-05-2011 01:07 PM

Paint looks great! How did you prep it? I can't stand the stock graphics.

Also interested in your thoughts on those tires... Dying to try a set.

NaZ-T 08-05-2011 01:39 PM

The tires worked better than I thought they would. Not as grippy as the TSL's, but not too far off. The extra tire height seemed to help in a few place. I did lower the Wraith down just a bit to compensate for the extra height of the tires.

I'm going to keep the Baja Claws on, mostly cause I don't think the extra grip from the TSL's is going to out weigh the awesome look of these tires.
I loved the look of the Wraith with these on.

No prep. I peeled the stickers, washed the panels and started grabbing cans. I'll be getting new panels soon so I didn't really care much how the paint came out.

Been a while, My Wraith has seen some changes and a bunch of carnage over the last few months.
I'll also added and tweaked a few things over the last few weeks to get it ready for the "Whiskey Tango" race
