"EL Gato"

The Wraith is a great rtr, but after running my first pack through it I started to tear it apart. I was originally just going to swap out electronics and run it at this weekends comp, but ...........

it ended up being the donor rig for a project that I have been plotting on for a while and "EL Gato" was born.

This is going to look good8)

Crawln Coles 07-14-2011 12:05 AM

My goal with this rig is to be a TTC & Class 3 rig to replace my FJ buggy

I wanted it to be light (under 10 lbs), have a longer WB than the FJ, 4WS, waterproof and alot of power.

Specs are gonna be

CMS
4WS
Mamba Max Pro & Novak Ballistic 18.5 for now-maybe Tekin motor in the future.
HS R & P front/ hardened rear from my FJ
& MIP shafts, also from the FJ
Full interior
It should have over 40 scale points also.

This is where I'm at with the chassis. It's a roller, but I'm not done w/the rear of the chassis and I wanna re-do the rear shock mounts.

THis thing is wide! When I get my new hubs I'll be able to put my EXI rockers w/Proline TSL's on & narrow it up a bit

I've been trying to find a way to do dimple dies for a while now. And I found a good way in @twill's build about doming blocks. So I picked up one & a set of dies at Harbor Freight today and they work awesome!

Here is my first attempt. I should have done a few more practice pieces, but it will be fine.

I attached them and the new rear shock mounts
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...o/IMAG0151.jpg

I brazed the hinges on, so I could use them to mount the toolbox. You can also see how the bed floor is floating.
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...o/IMAG0152.jpg

You can see where I caught the toolbox on fire, oops! I have damage & didn't even run it yet.

The tube work is done, well maybe. I want to tie in the rear plate to the chassis somehow. Not sure how I want to finish it off yet.

I plan on throwing some electronics in tomorrow night and see how it handles with the new chassis. And maybe snap a few pics.

Not bad, the dimple dies should look better once they get painted. Still love the build, the overall plan is awesome!

Don't forget 9 lives and great pouncing ability.

Coles, are you gonna put a tan bikini top like the real one? That would look killer.

I planned on it, but it will most likely be black.

Well I got it all back together with the hardened steel gears, alum C's & knuckles and I got the MIP's on it with HS R & P in the front

I have been trying to figure out how to mount the panhard to the axle, Finally decided to make a truss that has the upper link and panhard mount on it.
Here is the beginning of it thanks to CRF450R for the idea.
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...o/IMAG0216.jpg

I'm going to go cook-out if I have time tonight I wanna get that truss buttoned up.

Bulldog 08-01-2011 12:09 AM

Oh, sure...hotdogs and hamburgers first...the forum fans later. :lmao:
We'll just be here waiting for the panhard:roll: Love the progress captain kingsford!

Crawln Coles 08-01-2011 08:24 PM

Here are a few pics of the truss. It's solid! All 16 gauge steel and 1/4" brakeline

Next to the stocker
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...o/IMAG0224.jpg

On the rig. the suspension cycles very smooth with no bump steer.

hotwheels000 08-01-2011 10:34 PM

That truss is awsome Matt, we need to talk :)

Bulldog 08-01-2011 11:53 PM

The truss looks sick...very nicely done. I've done a panhard down to the letter and it let me down with flex...maybe I was expecting too much in the flex department. Do you have capability to post a vid of it flexing and showing the lack of bump steer? If you can I'm sure the wraith fans would appreciate it as most would love the more scale setup if it didn't sacrifice performance of the servo on the axle. The truss looks killer mounted!"thumbsup"

sally1800 08-02-2011 05:51 AM

NIce work one the Truss
