I wanted to test out the stock ESC too, and I am pretty cheap. So cheap I swap electrics from rig to rig

What are you running for gearing? I am trying 80 spur 20 pinion.

Still stock till it strips, outta dollars for now.
Having fun with the speed, but trying to dial in the ESC for some rock action.
Thinking 32pitch Robinsons maybe 56/14? I'ld like to kep the dust cover.
I couldn't help but notice your set up is very similar

Stock CC ESC (excellent ESC for beginners)
CC bec
5000mah 3c lipo
stock motor for now
...............................
the 13t Crawl master seems like a popular choice here,

Newb question= how are the 13t HH motors comparing to stock as far as sacrificing speed for torque? i have all of johns stuff in my LNC and i love it. im ready to pull the trigger on a new motor and i love the speed of this thing but i want more low end torque and more control over it. suggestions?

also, the drag brake function seems sub par to me. is this due to the quality of the motor or will this improve with a lower turn motor?

The quality of the motor does limit the drag, as does the tall gearing.

The 13t is right there with the stock motor on speed, maybe a hair less. It has more torque. If you want more speed than stock then a 12 or 11t is a better bet, but at the same time you will need to gear down on 3s to prevent overheating the motor with 5000mah runs. I'm still trying to figure out the good balance for it all, no matter how much I test there is always more than one opinion with importance.

Mostly crawling, I think between a 13 and 16t would be great in the CrawlMaster build, or 27 through 35t in the TorqueMaster build.

thx for your input john. i fried my stock motor after about 2 hrs of run time.... i know how rough i am i guess i was just waiting for the stock junker to shit the bed!.

well for the first time i feel i have the best of both worlds with the wraith (speed balanced with torque) so im having a hard time choosing my motor. i think the max speed is more than fine for me plus i dont plan on changing the gearing anytime soon i just want more manageable crawling down low(probably my fault for sticking with stock gearing for the meantime).

guess i need to quit thinking and pick me a motor! i can always change it again later when i change gearing

Default MMP motor choice

Hey guys,

I am currently running the VXL 3s but hate it. It sucks on the rocks. So I went and purchased the MMP and now Im looking for the best motor to put in it for crawling and some good trail hopping. What would be the best? I see alot of 13.5 Tekins but how are they on the rocks? What about a ballistic novak 13.5? Please let me know im itching for a great truck on the rocks with the VXL speed. I am running a Robinson 56T Spur and 16T pinion.

HH BR-XL water proofed
Currently a 20t tourqe master, thats soon the get swapped for 13t crawlmaster
2100mah 3s lipo
Stock servo untill it blows!
All run from a Rc4wd xr4 radio.

Works great when its not down waiting on parts to show up!

With a 56t spur i hope you've got 32p gears, because i know a 17t pinion is the smallest you can use with the stock 80t spur.

What kind of runtimes are you guys getting on the 11 - 13 turn crawlmasters? Im running a vxl on 2s 5000 and get around 45min. like the speed but the esc sucks for the trails.

Thanks,
Pete
