Default V's Wraith

Was in the lhs the other day and seen he had 2 new Wraith's sitting around. Not really been giving much thought on buying one since i got a traxxas summit that i dont ever run and seemed to be the same type of rc. But like most things seeing one in person gets your mind thinking. Terry(owner of lhs) is really great about taking trade in's ,and i've been on the fence about what to do with losi nightcrawler(put everything back stock) and had a few other rc things from years ago that i was getting ready to pretty much give away i thought i would see how he would trade. Very surprised i ended up with the wraith and 25 bucks to the good.

A few stock pics

Thinking this was going to alot like the summit i had high hopes for some fast speed bashing but this turned out to be nothing at all the same. There got to be alot of changes made. It seems to be on its top most of the time very top heavy and doesnt like going fast very much.

Took it to do some easy trail riding to get better feel for it but that was short lived when backing up easy not getting all into the trigger i thought i heard a small snap sound but was thinking it was a tig i was running over or something like that until noticed the front wheel lay over picked it up to see that the knuckle had broke. very shocked after the amount of abuse these same kind of knuckles have taking on my xr10.

Put a new one on and was giving it test drive in the garge and it seemed like a good time for a few donuts when the front end started acting up again, this time it had ripped the screw right out of the chub. Having a hard time guess what happened on that one?

The list of wants is changing to the list of got to haves:
Chubs (ripped a screw out)
Knuckles (broke)
Steering links (like a wet noodle when in a bind)
Lower links (already wrapping)
Front dogbones (already got metal shavings all over them and the pins dont stay in the cups at full turn)

There is alot more i want to change but after getting close to 2 packs ran threw it these things have to be fixed before going on.

Got to get to placing some orders, but somethings im working on tell parts get here:

Not sure if this will help or make things worst but im going to try outboarding the shocks to see if it will make it more stable.

Looking in my parts i found some lunsford ti links that i took off my losi and they seem to be a good fit.

Wanted to get the battery up front and made a plate for the electronics on the rear. Had the battery long ways (from cab to the front lights) which meant the rx box had to be moved to the rear but with the servo wire been to short and me being lazy i just put back up front and put the battery behind to fire wall. The esc did get moved to the back.

Until i can figure out what tires to go with i have some rovers that want to run just to see how a softer compound works

You're gonna love the Wraith! I love mine. You should flip the lower link/shock mounts and rear upper shock mounts and that will do a lot to lower the rig. Lay the shocks back in the front and rear and put on some softer springs. I've already decked it out with all the Vanquish parts, new 7955 servo and Tekin RS pro esc on 3s. I still have a long list of parts I'm gonna throw at this rig. Futaba rx, Proline shocks, Vanquish SSZ wheels and super swamper tires, DMG chassis stiffeners, under drive gears in the rear and on and on and on..... Send me a PM and we will do some trail running.

Not tried flipping mounts yet, put some axial black springs on it and have some broke in losi golds to try. Laid the shocks all the way back but ended up moving back to the middle hole.

Going to replace the knuckles and chubs with some vanquish parts after breaking a knuckle and ripping a screw out of the chub twice now.

Had a 7980 that I tried putting on but you got to use the optional mounts to get the screws to line up and they are thicker which pushes the servo out farther so the chassis hit the servo when compressed. I guess I could find some mounts to make it work but really want something alittle faster, could trade out the 7950 that's on the XR10 but I like it better than the 7980 so maybe just sale it and pick up another 7950.

Have a almost new tekin rs and a trinity duo3 17.5 brushless to try.

Was thinking about getting another rx to add this to the 4pk but I have a dx3r sitting going to waste so may use it that way somebody can drive it while I'm running another rig.

Don't know what way ill end up going for wheels, looking at the swamper or the baja claws they are both listed as 5.7 tall and I like the look of the taller tire.

We need to set up a place and time, should be alot of fun!

O and do you think under driving the rear will work good on a faster trucks like these?

Talking Spacer

Look at your picture where the screw pulled out from the c hub, you have the spacer on top and it goes on the bottom against the hub maybe that caused it to flex and pull out.

Yea that seemed odd and i checked the other side and its the same way and thought nothing else about it. Thats the way it came out of the box. Think you maybe right, might be where the problem is. Have to round up another spacer and screw since i lost them last time they came out and see what happens. Thanks!

Picked up a replacment bushing and a set of aluminum chubs and i guess the fact that the bushings where assembled on the wrong side was giving me all my trouble with the dogbones and maybe the reason for the early breakage.

With the few changes made one or all have made a huge improvment in the way the truck handles how. It has become alot of fun now and its nice being able to drive more than a foot or two away from my feet now that i don't have to turn back over almost everytime i turn.

Changes made before this last run:
fixed the bushings
aluminum chubs
ti lower links
outboarded rear shocks
rockstar wheels and rovers

Playing around with a few ideas:

Made some lower door nets

Thinking about cutting off the rear cage and added in some kind of link like this but would like to make it out of something black to match the rest of the cage

Like to have some kind of rock sliders but made of tubing, this was a Fast and Sloppy made skid just to give an idea of what im thinking

Kind of this look but with a soild skid plate from the skid plate to about the bottom of the panels the the tube openings on the top side.

Maybe one of the skilled tube frame makers on here could work this up into one of there art pieces

Cut the back of the upper chassis off and thought i would post up some different looks using some axial links i had handy. I have yet to cut the roof panel due to im not sure which way im going to need it cut. So some pics i just laid something on top to give an idea of what it may look like with a roof and even at one point cut and painted a piece of cardboard to lay on for a roof

Hope this helps anyone thats thinking of cutting theres.

I would be interested in knowing which look you guys like better if any of them.

Yhea you got to over look the colors, got to order some more black derlin round rod to make them out of, these where used just to get an idea from. May deanodize until then. Also got to make the bed cover and add a net behind the seats, should help it all come together.

Have you picked up one yet? I think Scott, Chris and I are going to the pocket Sunday. You need to come!

106mm with the shortest rod ends on the parts tree I started with a 15/64 drill bit to drill out the rod end to make it fit over the cage and keeped going up a size until I got to 9/32. I don't have a drill press at home and it was easier keeping the hole centered going up bit sizes instead of starting with the 9/32. The rod ends are very soft plastic and I tore several drilling them out, had some harder 3mm rod ends that I ended up using just had to shorting them up abit.

Tire laying flat looks awesome.Wonder if extra weight in back will hurt it to bad. Can't go wrong with any of those choices, did hood fit good on rear?

I like these, the first one being the best.

I wouldn't go with the spare on the back, these trucks is top heavy enough as it is.

Ended up going with the simple longer straight post. I like the look of the spare tire alot but I would say it would hurt the handling and maybe get torn off the rear.

Not much worried anymore about how its going to hold up with the top being cut after some of the long down hill rolls it took the other day when me and pdog7 got together.

Like to change up the body alittle but just added some paint for now. Needs black seats.

Looks good Justin
I'm ready to go out and tear up some hill climbs this weekend.
Since we went out I got a Holmes BRXL and 21t Torque Master,
Steel tranny gears, 32pitch spur and pinion, SLW wheels, MIP shafts, and baked off the tires. Man they stink when you heat them up
Still waiting on some sweet DMG tube work

WOW, you shure gave us a lot to think about. I likes the bent bars with the bend facing up; however I kindof still like the stock cage. After all, isn't that what we all fell in love with and couldn't wait for when we were all waiting for the release date?
