The TSL's are an excellent tire for sure. I have ran them on several trips now. The reviews on the Pit Bulls seem to be much more mixed. I think foams are really important to them. Their look also polarizes people too... The good news is that I have both now, so I am going to give them a good head to head comparison to see which works better for my vehicle on the terrain I run.

For what its worth, I am running 5.5" CI Double Deuces in the TSL's and DosP's in the Pit Bulls. "thumbsup"

Its basically an oil that displaces water. I am using it for an extra layer of protection encase of water exposure. I am not interested on turning my Wraith into a submarine, just want good splash protection/insurance. DiEzel's Wraith thread has a good write-up with several links to it. 8)

I also stole or borrowed the idea from you, and it worked out slicker than cat poop. Thanks for the fantastic tip. I would post some pics but I don't seem to have that privledge yet, as I am still fairly new.

Out of curiosity, what size drill bit did you use on the make shift hood mounts?

rojo 12-07-2011 07:10 PM

Got it wired up and did a few test runs today. So far I am really liking the pro4/mmp combo. For those that run it, though, I have one question...

If I ease into the throttle it slowly and steadily begins to move, and then it jumps forward. It only happens from a complete stop. I can get on the throttle and back down to a craw and it is fine?:?: Its almost like it gets a surge of voltage or something?

Besides that I like it. Top-end is about like a stock slash on a 3s lipo. I'm running 0 degrees of timing, sensored only, cheat mode enabled (@ 4 deg). Torque is great, smooth as butter besides the "surge" issue. Drag break is amazing... anything over 80% is really not drivable. Once I get the wiring cleaned up I will get some pictures and video. "thumbsup"

Couldn't tell you honestly. I just looked through my collection until I found the size that matched the shaft and still allowed the threads to bite. "thumbsup"

A couple of video's testing out the electronics:

WraithSpeedRuns.mp4 video by johnroginsky - Photobucket

WraithCrawlingRuns.mp4 video by johnroginsky - Photobucket

I am really enjoying this setup... Great speed and still retains some decent crawl-ability on the rocks... 8)

Tons of electronics and wiring to cram under the hood... but I tried to keep it fairly clean. Everything fit in the front except the MMP which got mounted in the rear. Next up it to fab up a new battery mount "thumbsup"

nice man, i like your setup also, i think it has great speed plus good clawling speed. i kinda like the MMP in the rear, if you get a rear tray panel and the MMP is sits tall enough, you could cut away the bit that covers the MMP, and it will look like a cooling fan. i rekon that would loook mightly fine. how are you liking the 4WS.

Bulldog 12-11-2011 12:32 AM

I think your turtle could easily end up on a fencepost with one quick trigger.
I'd be happy with half the speed and twice the control, but I'm loving the vids. Keep posting, we're watching!;-)

The speed is great fun for sure. It is amazing how well it still crawls though. I am going to increase the drag break a hair more to make crawling a little easier... I could still drop a tooth or two on the pinion gear to help the low speed control, but so far I like it like it is. The Tekin Pro4 is definately a beast, and a perfect match-up to my uses for the Wraith.

Glad to see your diggin the motor/esc combo. Pretty bad ass isn't it ? Well worth the needed drivetrain upgrades. :ror:

Dig the battery mount you got goin.. Should be able to stuff one of these big dawgs in there - Sky Lipo 4400mAh 11.1V 30C or even 5,000 if you'd like. Great for those long trail runs.. I get bout 45-1:15ish. 13/60.

Haven't ran them all the way out yet... I am guessing about 20-30 minutes each. Definitely go 3s. Volt up and gear down!

Hey rojo,

In the battery tray pic, looks like you just used a flat piece of delrin, correct? Did you run the 2 outer screws through the straps? I'm wanting to do a different battery tray up front, rather than cutting down the stock tray and going that way.

Thanks!

Thanks rojo!!!

I'm guessing you used a flat washer and a nut to secure the strap, as well?

Re: ROJO's 4WS Wraith

More work done today!

Front sway bars installed. I had to use a mix of parts from the front and rear axial kits to make it work. I used the links and softest sway bar from the "front" kit and used the shorter arms from the "rear" kit. I also had to use an offset rod end to clear the shock on the bottom mount. I had to mix and match them because of my front shocks being relocated so far forward, along with the larger diameter shocks I am using. Either way, I think it turned out great, and will definitely help control the body roll a lot better at speed. I'm planning on leaving the rear without as I didn't want to kill all my travel.

Approaching the finish line on this build...

Last major detail, the rear deck cover:

Made out of styrene and foam with the TTH logo inset into the cover. (Been watching way too many custom car shows lately...lol) Also put on a trail rack complete with cooler and tow strap.

I have no idea why all these tire manufacturers refuse to make big tires. To me, it makes the AR60's look perfectly to scale. They work unbelievably well on the trails too. The extra height did raise my CG a bit, but the other tradeoffs are absolutely worth it.

Props goes to Crawler Innovations for making this set. "thumbsup"

Sorry I missed this question... I use slash proline front shocks for the rear of my wraith, and slash proline rear shocks for the front of my wraith. Note that I have a tall front shock mount that was custom made though... If you are using stock locations, use the shorter slash proline front shock all the way around. "thumbsup"

On a side note, I have a few more special updates coming on this build... I blew out a axial universal which also buggered a felenfest locker... bigger and better parts en-route!

Re: ROJO's 4WS Wraith... Now with Steel GCM MetalHeads!

Time to update with a few changes made over the last part of this year... Still having a blast with this truck!

First off, I swapped to GCM Steel Metal-Head AR-60 axles. These were the first ones he made (and the only ones in steel that I know of). It took a little fitting between the Vanquish C and Panhard mount, but they went together rather smoothly for being a custom-ordered axle. I also chose a black oxide coating to protect the steel a bit from the elements. "thumbsup"

(Internally I switched to Vanquish Lockers and VVD's. I'm still currently running under-drive gears front and rear)

Also, just to note, The GCM housings give a gain of about 1/8" of ground clearance under the diff over a stock style housing.

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...ps9dcbbc84.jpg

Next up was to install a little lighting for the after-hour runs. I chose the MadDog Exo light bar (and adapted it to the Wraith) along with some MadDog Rock Lights. Wow, these things are bright! (They are wired directly to a 3s lipo.)
