Default My Ultra 4 style AX/Wraith

Plans are for a Ultra 4 style rig on AX axles with 2.2's maybe 1.9's and a fairly short wheelbase. Stock electronics for now on 3S.

Got this chassis off of here in stock form. Already have another and wanted to change the chassis up just a little bit. I know some have been cutting the top of the rear cage and bringing it down. I think that looks good but it looks too long IMO. So I sat down and started hacking. This is all simple bolt together and no gluing.

The first cut hurt the most.

Then things got a little tricky, but with a little thinking I got it down.

Let me know what you think. I will update the thread when I get a little further along.

Thanks for the kind words, but now that puts the pressure on to make it worthy.
I've been staring at this thing and I think I may shorten up the front end as well.
It looks a little disproportional with the rear so short now. Should be fairly easy to do though.

Got some more done on this thing tonight. Like I said earlier the front looked too long after the rear was done, so I got to work on that. Took out just under a 1/2" off of the bumper supports. It butted the stinger up to the grill and made a pretty good difference.

This is a stock one:

If this was going to be an ULTRA 4 something was missing in this area.

So I took the excess from the top when I cut it down and made some spreaders.

I also took the roof and flipped it 180*. I think it looks good because it follows the rear down bars pretty well. Here is an overall shot of how it sits now.

Well I got even more done. Moved ESC to the rear of the chassis, the on off switch to the battery plug hole and started on some side panels. This thing is so frickin fun to work on i'm afraid i'll be sad when it's actually time to run it.

I'm just curious here, but why would you want a shorter WB?

I'm new lol.

In this case the stock wheelbase wouldn't look right. But there are many reason to shorten a wheelbase.

Got some more done tonight, got side panels made and mounted and window nets cut and installed. I think it's turning out pretty good.

I also had an idea for making dimple die'd panels. Every body that has an axial has the parts to do it. Just a counter sunk screw, the green counter sunk spacer that axial makes and a backing nut. It works like a charm.

I'm down for that. Maybe when everybody is out at the park working on the new spot.

Mocked up the wheels and tires off of my Wraith, also took the 1.9's off of my other AX/Wraith and they just don't look right on this for some reason, did'nt think to take a pic though.

Finally got this thing up and running. The Wraith wheels rubbed on the steering link so for now I threw some Creeper wheels on it. Panels are primed and ready for paint. I left a clue in one of the pictures as to paint scheme. If you can guess it you will win absolutely nothing.

Didn't like my down bars as they didn't look scale so I switched them out for some music wire.

Next up is getting the panels painted and installed and the wiring buttoned up.
