Default Southern buggy - EOR 321

So, I got a rtr Wraith about a month ago, and stripped it down to the axles and electronics and promptly sold off everything else (the wheels and links in the pics are "on loan") Then proceeded to spend a whole bunch of money on more upgrades. Decided after all that, should actually start to build something.

Some specs to start with:

Wraith axles beefed up with:
- Axial c's
- Axial knuckles (also have the VP's, going 4 wheel steering on this eventually)
- VP diff covers
- STRC lower link/shock mount
- STRC diff holder
- HR diff locker (currently getting some binding, so may swap these out)
- underdrive rear
- hardened front

Tranny, while stock currently, has following parts en route:
- VP case
- BWD FOFF motor plate
- CI Maxx outputs
- Robinson Racing upgraded gears

Electronics will be a mix of goodies:
- HH BRXL esc
- HH motor of some sort (likely Crawlmaster 13t, haven't fully decided yet)
- Hitec 7955TG servos
- Spektrum DX3r (although I'm getting sick of only having 3 channels)

Shocks are RC4WD, I think 110mm length. RC4WD measures their shocks end to end instead of eye to eye, and I can't remember which these were at the moment.

Dan at Mayhem worked with me to make up a custom set of beadlocks that will work with the Wraith offset and look more like a wheel like a southern buggy has on it. John (MTHead) has some custom beadlock rings ready to go. Likely to go with swampers with CI dual stage foams.

That's all the tech. Wanting to get used to the Wraith axles, and because a friend of mine challenged me to it, I decided to hold on to the stock links and make a frame that would be essentially a bolt-on to a stock Wraith.

After looking around for a while, I found the Essentially Offroad EOR 321 chassis and decided it looked like a good candidate:

A couple days of brazing and my own interpretation:

Had my laser cutter make up some side plates for the stock skid:

Then the fun task of brazing on 64 nuts for panels, electronic trays, interior, etc.

Next is cleaning everything up and then painting

Awesome! You should show a basic diy on brazing.

Your very sneaky!!! sick dude.

Now for you to find a Newbright Camaro hardbody, pinch the nose, Mayhem wheels with rc4wd twoface tires and BAM...have yourself the mini CRAWLMARO!

try some 100mm shocks up front, it will even things out.

Looked up vid on brazing and concept looks simple, what kind of rod or tubing do you use? How heavy is your rig over stock and what about strength?

Yeah, the Crawlmaro doesn't really do it for me. Maybe some day though

I need to get a selection of shocks to mess around with the ride height. These were the only ones I had handy at the moment!

Using 3/16" brakeline. Strength isn't an issue. I've built dozens of frames over the years and never had an issue. I don't have the stock frame handy, so couldn't tell you for sure. This frame is pretty light, but I doubt it's lighter than the plastic frame.

Few more pics of it all cleaned up.

Playing with the new toy (metal punch)

Thanks guys, appreciate the comments/compliments.

Got a chance in between projects to finish this up for the most part. Made up a quick interior, electronics box (beginning of a fuel cell), panels, and then paint. Gloss black for the frame, flat black for the interior parts, brushed aluminum for the roof panels and fuel cell, and a metallic blue for the panels. I really like the panel paint colour myself, turned out pretty well, although a little bit lighter would have been better (backed the blue with flat black, next time I'd back with silver or white and then black).

Anyways, I'll let the pics do the talking:

Looking good Chris, very nicely done. Can't wait to see more of it, you'll have to bring it to PM next time your in town.

IMO those panels at the front just don't look right, but hey thats just me. When I own this rig I can take them off.

Ok ok, I get the hint I agree, looking at the pics, the panels do look a bit off, so:

Thought maybe a filler panel in behind might work. Good location for the headlights in that case:

Great work on the truck!
Maybe something like a black wire mesh for those front filler panels and then maybe the headlights.

Agree on the front panels being off, it looks like they should taper in towards the center rather than come straight down. But, killer work as always man! Don't know how you churn them out so fast!

Dig it. And i agree w/ the triangle panels. Just didnt look right.. That would be a good spot for some awesome headlights if you get fancy with the styrene and leds..

Awesome build.
