Sorry if this has already been answered before.
Yeah the first post basically covers it. With a brushed motor you aren't going to get much faster then stock. A 13t Crawlmaster or 27t Torquemaster.

How is the 18,5T Novak Goat 3S gonna perform? I'm currently running 3S lipo on stock motor and ESC, but the motor is starting to smell funny. What I'm looking for is some more torque and maybe a hair more wheelspeed. I also want to keep some dragbrake, maybe like the stock. Or maybe go a totally different direction and go for HH BR-XL and a brushed motor, I'm really pleased with the performance of the HH in my Wheely king running 3S.

Stay away from Novak. Terrible drag brake technology. I have never ran a brushless I disliked more. if you want more speed then go mamba max pro and 13.5 Tekin. That part is covered in the first posts.

I can justify that is an awesome combo as i am running that. Swap the pinion/spur to the 32 pitch and crank down your slipper. (I wanna get rid of my slipper but what do you need? Not helpin if its cranked down, Eh. Dont really care losin a $5 spur gear once in a while) second thought don't crank the slipper if runnin plastic transmissision gears. still a really good combo.

For the money there are much better choices. It works but if you have driven the other systems you'd understand.

UPDATE!

Upped the gearing to 22/87 and through in a 3s lipo.. Yee haw.. Low speed control and lots of speed.
10 minutes of beating the crap out of it in my yard with about 85 donuts and 50 sliding power turns. Did some crawling over the wood pile and then checked the temp on the motor. 105*f and I used 600 mah out if a 3000 mah 20c 3s zippy lipo.
Broke the bumper mount when I crashed into my wife's ford escape, but other than that it was Awesome..
Highly recommend this as a cheap upgrade.

I meant the Tekin 13.5& MMpro. Drag brake kinda sucks. I have the Holmes 13 turn and his Speedo on order. Tell John you video is good advertising.

After i burnt up a couple motors (the stock one, then a hpi 27t) i read up and changed the gears. i ended up with 87/18 48p and it made it crawl like a champ with another 27t, but it was slow. my 4yo could run faster than it. i picked up a 3s lipo today and threw that in. it crawls awesome still, but is fast like it was stock. after a good 30min of full throttle thru the leafs and 10 min in the rocks, the motor was warm, but i was able to touch it. a huge improvement. re-gearing should have been the first thing i did.

next is a holmes 13t and brxl (hopeing for a christmas present)

thanks for all the info everyone

Try out 84 spur 16 pinion. The stock gearing is too high and can cause motors to burn up quickly.

No that's fine. He wants to use a stock axial motor which is just a lower quality motor then a handwound. Lower gearing will just help it last.

I'd throw that Axial in and get the gearing where you like it. Then upgrade. If you aren't super familiar with gearing it'll be a great exercise to practice.

Question can the stock axial ESC AE-2 handle a 11 turn cobalt or is it limited to all 20 turn motors thank you.
