Had this HPI body abused and thrashed (was on a 4-linked Twin-Force before) resting in a corner for more than two years now. Today looked at it, and brain started tinkering... Out went the Dremel and half an hour later (and lot of lexan dust) here is the result: Test assembled with tires and interior (which is still work-in-progress for painting) Not sure if I want to keep the tail or to bob it... It clears the tires in twist anyway... This started as a mere test, but the more I look at it the more I like it! Please forgive the mounting holes on the hood, they'll be closed It's definitely in unfinished state, as at the moment it was under maintenance/upgrade and removed all electronics. Tie rod is "almost" straight, made in 4mm allthread sleeved in alu, and over sleeved in black shrinkwrap. Placed out of the way over the stock arms, runs very tight to the diff cover (kisses at full lock with axial universals) Half stock draglink, sleeved in alu, With a threaded Clodbuster steering link, and Voilą, fake hydraulic steering ram So what do you think? Keep this body or thrash in the garbage? Last edited by rockspider; 11-18-2011 at 07:33 AM. |

Sweet! That body sure fits the rig well. I almost ordered a proline jeep body, might have to get one of these instead...

Thanks guys Still unsure about bobtail or keep it large... A few answers, Frdtrkguy (Fordtruckguy contraption?) Yes I'm very happy for the steering, clean looking, and the feeling is strong and precise. I had not showed before, but if you look carefully the servo mounting plate is not stock, I made a new one with holes farther back. The reason was to move the servo back to keep the servo arm protected behind the tie rod, meanwhile before it was protruding, and smashing the servo head on any stone face was no good... The overall width with 8-shooters and TSL is 30cm which is 11.8". Each tire bulges 1/4" outside the beadlock ring, if that matters. Desert RC, Thanks! those are hand painted sand beige with burnt earth brown details. Thought the two tone beige-brown would suit better the Jeep style interior. Thinking to change the tunnel colour too, because now is painted grey but does not match well with the rest. You think? Nuggsmoker, sorry but my english is basic school learned, not sure what you mean with "like tampons" Last edited by rockspider; 11-18-2011 at 04:07 PM. |

Nice rig I agree with the dovetail comment. I think it would look better with the body against the chassis. Jeeps are just like a Wraith, gotta pay to play |

Ok so got some time and cutted some more... First cut the hood open, I needed it for the front mounted batteries anyways. I had some fears af body going out of shape with out the hood, because the body itself fits over the chassis like a very tight glove, but was lucky ad still it looks good. Look carefully and the thin portion over the dash looks too much stretched and slightly bent in the middle. With the hood closed the gap is barely noticeable I've also completed the painting and detailing of the interior Then after much debate I narrowed the tail. I had so many doubts before, but after looking at the result I'm happy I've done it, I like it better now! As you see I also fitted a spare inside there, I saw the KoH rigs all must have them. Ok, it's a 1.9" and looks a bit funny in comparison with the TSL, but better limping home on a smaller spare than remain stranded on a trail... |

Imho it looks better dove tailed. I think it conforms the wraith chassis better than the earlier set up. Looks ! |
