| stock speed ?
how can i tell my stock wraith is going as fast as it should ? ive seen videos etc of small jumps, and landing on all fours, but mine just cant do it. even tiny jumps are a no go. in fact anything more than a small tree root is a mistake. yet i see youtube videos with stock wraiths happily doing small jumps and tearing around................. before i look at speeding it up, i want to be sure its going like it should in the first place |

what battery are you using? If you're using the stock esc, buy a castle link to make sure the settings are right.

Thought I remember hearing 10 mph to 11 mph on a URC review on You Tube? Not sure if that is accurate.

Not be redundant, but as stated above it's prolly soley dependant on your choice of battery at this point. Consider the "s" rating on a lipo as it's ability to "sprint".... Higher the "s", the more power it can dump at once. EDIT I'm an idiot. I could be referring to the "c" rating. Hell, you probably know better than I do. |

With the stock 20t You're looking at 11mph at best. 3 cell lipo will give You about 15 to18 mph, and the 20t will go "pooff" after about 3 to 4 4000mah packs. No problem for promotional vids, but a bit expensive for " normals" like us A cheap 550 like the Traxxas 12t Titan 550, will get about 17 mph, and will do jumps, some good roosters, and will climb pretty decently. If You don't mind completely sacrificing crawling ability, You can get the Wraith up to 25-28 mph (8.4v) on the straights with, said, Titan ( with the right gearing of course, 26/80 or thereabout) it will be completely uncontrollable in the corners, even lowered, but WOW! See the dust fly.. If You're after speed and good climbing, there's no other way than the torquemasters on 3 cells, or going sensored brushless. I, myself use a 8.5 turns LRP V4 on 2 cells lipo. It will do about 22-23 mph with 20/80 (=stock) gearing, but will crawl quite a bit better with 20/87 gearing at the cost of some speed. (I get a GPS-checked- 18.7 mph out of it! 20.4mph with a freshly charged 8.4v nimh) PLUS it will run , like, forever on 4000 mah. The more expensive choice would be a Tekin 13.5 BL, or an LRP stock-spec X12 10.5 BL, but they are about $130.- a pop. If You plan on dunking Your Wraith, a brushless is out of the question, water and sensors don' mix, and there is only so much one can do to water-proof. To go all submarine, a brushed 550, or a 5-slot 540 on 3cells ( like the Holmes Hobbies torquemasters) is the only way Oh, and -most importantly- the Stock Wraith gearbox runs in reverse (i.e. the motor has to run Clockwise as seen from the front of the can) Motors that are advanced the wrong way, will burn to a crisp pretty quick! Many found that out to their detriment. I flipped the diffs to get the motor to run Counter Clockwise, as most stock motors do. Hope this helps somewhat. I'm going round a friends later who has a castle link, so I will check if its set up correctly first, and if it still isn't no good I'll be installing the traxxas 12t. Don't want ballistic just 15-mph would be better. If I just install the new motor then it won't work for long? To change rotation couldn't I just swap the motor wires around? I don't understand the diff switch. Lol thanks for the reply. |

However, no panic! I checked for you, and the Titan seems to be 0 degrees, i.e. not advanced. It runs the same speed CW as CCW, so wrenching with the diff isn't neccesary. By the by, speed 600 type motors, as used in larger electric planes, also work, but the Titan is cheap, readily available, and has quite a bit more torque than the wheezy 20t that Axial put in the Wraith. Good luck, and have fun! Last edited by Jay-Em; 11-27-2011 at 12:16 AM.

well i just checked the esc with the castle creations software, it was all at 100% bar the drag which was at 40%. so im really not impressed with the performance, so ive just ordered a traxxas 12t. i already have an xl5 so fingers crossed this weekend we should have lift off ! a few people have mentioned 550 cans not fitting without mods, is there anything i should know ? what size pinions would be needed for 18-20 mph on 2s ? |

I am also curious about the Traxxas 550. Does it drop in with out any mods? Will the stock esc handle it? Does the stock pinion fit? Thanks

And if u look on your wraith box, you'll see it states "accepts 550 sized motors with no modification" and i'm runnin stock gears. I've put five 5000mah nimh packs through it with out even so much a temp increase Last edited by Soulo747; 11-27-2011 at 05:07 PM.

For the 550 to fit You'll need only to shave off a little of the studs that fit the links on the bottom-plate. You'll see it when You fit the 550. It is possible that the Titan's axle is a bit long. Shorting it is easy. Do not forget to cover the holes in the front of the motor when dremeling or hack-sawing, I usually take some old tarp, cover the motor, stick the axle through, and start cutting. By the by, the Castle will do pretty well with the 12t Titan. Castle has been a bit too cautious with the published specs.

By the by, There are 21t Titans (14,4 v max. made for 4 cells) and there are 12t Titans. 7,4 v 8,4 max, made for 2 cells. Do not mix those up. 21t Titans (from the E-Maxx) are dismally slow on 2 cells. they need at least 3 cell lipo's. the 12t Titans(from The Slash) are pretty darn fast with just 2 cells, or a quality 8,4v NiMh. |
