Default The Testykalz Wraith...

Well, I had been out of the crawler scene for a while and saw the Wraith. Had to have one and ended up buying myself a kit. As of right now, the goal is to make it strictly a crawler with enough juice to power up some bigger obstacles.

The other night I got it up and running, but haven't had a chance to do anything but some indoor crawling.

Current mods are as follows:

Motor and ESC: Holmes Hobbies Torqemaster Expert 45 Turn and BR-XL.
Spur/Pinion: Duratrax 56t 32p Spur with a Robinson Racing 10t 32p Pinion (5.6:1)
Servo: Hitec 7954SH with Robitronics arm
BEC: CC BEC set at 7.4V
Wheels: Proline 8 Shooters with black beadlock rings (running 3.75 oz in front wheels)
Tierod/draglink: Chaotic Crawlers titanium 4 bend custom tierod and draglink
Battery: GForce 1300mah 3s 11.1v 40c Lipo's (x3)

Free or budget mods include:
Wire clamp Hood hinges w/velcro to hold closed
Flipped front/rear lower shock mounts with flipped upper rear shock mounts
ESC and BEC mounted in rear area behind interior
Painted interior and Axial logo's on diff covers
Only running driver seat to keep the COG a little lower

I still need to find a way to mount the battery in the compartment in front of the firewall. Plenty of room there with the batteries I am running, but just needing a way to secure them in there. I may try a combo of the extra ESC holder along with the velcro straps.

I'll get some better shots once I get a chance to get it on some rocks or something!

nice rig man, the wheels look sic against the white panels. as for the battery, you can buy battery plates specially for the front of a wraith. hope this helps out a bit.

Didn't take long for that sticker to start coming off! With what little rocks I currently have, it seems to perform decently. I was running on leave covered rocks so I know that had alot to do with it having problems. I haven't ran it with the lipo yet, just a 7.2v NIMH battery since I haven't got my charger yet.

Some action and poser shots...

Well, I couldn't stop tinkering with the wraith after running it for the first time today. So I finally got the battery holder altered to fit my battery. I cut the original battery plate down to fit and then added some of the soft side of the velcro to it. The battery was already a decently snug fit the way I mounted it, but with the velcro it seems to hold it pretty damn well.

Very clever. Necessity is the mother of invention. Nice work.

Wow! With the lipo in, this thing is like a totally different animal! It crawls decent on my limited rock pile and has some good wheelspin! Need to find some better rocks!

Well, I went and tried out a new place today. This was the first time to actually have some challenging obstacles to test everything out. Torque and speed is perfect for what I want, it crawls really well and then has some speed when I need to bump up an obstacle. I had no breakage other than leaky stock shocks and pulling a bead on the front right tire.

I do have MIP shafts on the way and a set of real shocks will be coming in the near future.

Pics are here.... a short compilation vid of some clips may be in order...

Well, I had to put the wraith away for awhile due to starting my last semester of school. I had a little time to get my MIP shafts put together and ready to go in, will probably do that tomorrow. I am still trying to decide what kind of shocks I want to run. I plan on doing mostly crawling and trails with it, no fast stuff.

Also, I have found out my velcro "hood latch" isn't strong enough or isn't enough contact area of velcro on hard rollovers. It is pretty scale looking though after a roll over with the hood opened a little!

So my next mods will be:

New way to hold hood down
Diff Covers
Rear tray or cover

Since everyone likes pics...

Wraith MIP driveshafts awaiting install:
