Default ==> zjguy & son Wraith build <==

Well, decided to bite the bullet and build a couple Wraiths for Zack and me. Wanted to wait for the kits to come out, so have been accumulating parts for a while now. Selling off some other stuff, including the Slash 4x4s and the Honchos (thinking a Wraith will combine the crawling of the Honchos with the bashing of the Slashes). Still waiting on a couple parts to get things rolling, but here are a couple teaser pics.

VP SLW2 1.35" with TSLs for me

Sticking with my orange/blue/white paint schemes

Rogue element winch mount and VP SLW5 1.35" wheels for Zack

And his black and red paint scheme, getting a little fancier this time around

Should have the one piece lockers in a couple days, then start putting axles together this weekend probably.

I'm really thinking these rigs are going to be what I had hoped the Honchos would be. We'll have to have a WraithCross comp sometime =)

.....This is so awesome!

My best advise, put the battery in the front, under the hood. Don't go bananas with the motor, I run a traxxas 12T. Most of the guys that run brushless are eating the stock drive line.
I wish these would catch on more in Michigan, they are so much fun..

Up grade the stock steering, for sure.

I'm putting metal gears in the trannys, switching to 32p gears. Have the kits, so have the good driveshafts. One piece lockers. Of course, I'll have to VPify the axles (chubs, knuckles, steering, wheels, covers, etc). I'm putting Sidewinders in with Holmes 27t torquemasters on 3S, 7954 servos.

I'm actually planning on putting together a course in the backyard and in the woods. Like I said before, the Honchos were fun but no speed, and the slashes were a riot out on the road, but we have the Rustlers for speed runs. I'm really thinking this is the platform that I will enjoy the hell out of. =)

I had considered dropping in the MMP/2200kV combo I had bought for my now defunct FOFF build, but from what people say, it wouldn't crawl very well being sensorless, and would be almost too fast. I've seen guys on here swapping out their brushless setups and going to a brushed one.

The Pro 4 is sensored and made for decent torque. We will see though. Not to concerned about low speed, this isn't a crawler. Made for going fast and jumping

I'm kind of going for the rock racer setup. I want to make a course through the woods behind the house. Some jumps, moguls, roots, a couple faster sections, make it go over the easier part of the little rock course I have done. Should be fun

Looks great,.

Good to see Zack building his own stuff, most kids his age wouldn't know where to start. I have my parents to thank for the skills I have today, because they got me into stuff like this at an early age. Then showed me how it all worked...

Wait twenty years when things come full circle, and he's showing you how its done. That's where me and my dad are now, it's hilarious.....most of the time....and other times, we just yell at each other and through tools.. Like a scaled down version of OCC...

The Rogue Element winch mount is made to fit the stock front assembly.

Looking like some great product going on these 2 builds. Awesome to see another father/son Wraith combos coming together. My son and I both have Slashs and now I just picked up another Wraith to build up for him, he was doing great with mine I figured 2 would be better. Great to enjoy with father/son time! Can't wait to see how they come along.

OK, got some more done on mine. Have it to a roller.

Got the 5000mAh 3S pack under the hood

Just when you think things are going too smoothly, you prove yourself right. VP SLW 1.35" wheels with 475 hubs, rubbing on the VP steering linkage. Time to order some larger hubs.....

With the hood and driver sitting in place. Still need to do the hood hinge mod. I'm thinking of making the rear of the cage a "fastback" mod and running with no roof.

So once I get the hubs straightened out, just need to finalize where to put the ESC (thinking of making a little tray and putting it in the rear where the battery was supposed to go), and we should be up and running.

Well, got some more done today, mostly on Zack's. Got his to a roller.

With the winch on the Rogue Elements mount

Got the .600 hubs, so no more rubbing on the steering linkage

Mine with it's sister rig

Now time to get the electronics hooked up and things to dry out some outside and see what these things can do
