ive been doing quite a bit of reading and research over the last week about using a 3s lipo with the stock ESC. a lot of people say with BEC it is ok, but ive also seen people that have done it and it has fried. how well will this ESC really hold up to a 3s lipo

i already have the BEC installed. but the paper work on the electronics says only use a 2s, but there are lots of people running the 3s on the stock wraith ESC. i want to know if it will hurt it or if it will be fine

did some research today trying to find a hardened steel gear set for the tranny. CKRC sells one but ive heard its not a good idea to buy from them. is there anywhere else to buy the full set or just indivitually?

RPP has Robinson gears for the trans. They sell separately here Axial Wraith Parts I believe some have run 3s on the stock ESC. If you fry it your not loosing much. |

ok thanks for the info. yeah i know its not much but id rather spend money on other upgrades before having to buy more electronics. all in all i really like this thing for an out of the box rtr. just needs some love in a few areas.

just went and checked it out. first it came up with nothing but then i found it. it looks the set comes with all 3 gears and its only $28.99. the stock axial trannys always make me a bit nervous.

moved my shocks out on the bottom to get a bit more angle. and it got me 1/2" or so more total tire travel. i think it has the perfect amount of flex now. it kinda shocked me to see how much a small angle improved my travel. stock location on top and bottom it didnt even pass the soda can test. it would pull a tire 1/2/" or better off the ground. now im thinking of switching the shocks out to the aluminum bodied losi shocks. How much did that cut down on your turning radius from hitting the spring?

it still turns all the way. it also helps the break over on the suspension just like a real 4 link set up. it works a lot better this way IMO

not really but i think it works better. the shock and the tire are moving at the same angle. its not a straight up and down shock with the tire tire pushing against it while up traveling. its better to have them working with eachother than somewhat against eachother.

The stock upper trans gear is already steel, so you just need the idler and lower gear. I just replaced mine yesterday. I was surprised to find the three dinky 2mm bolts holding the lower gear assembler together were loose, even though I had put blue loc-tite on them. This time around they got red loc-tite, hoping that they'll never have to come apart again. Do yourself a favor and get the Robinson Racing parts, they'll last much longer than the lesser quality Hot Racing, or whatever, gears. The upper shock bushings don't bind with the additional angle from the wider lower mounting location? As long as your not running a super hot motor, and are using an external BEC, then the stock ESC will survive 3s abuse. |

I'm running a 55t integy pro crawler motor. I figured 1 gear was metal but the set was a decent price. I'm going to go with Robinson. I have their gears in my ax10 and they are great. I also started cutting my back half apart tonight trying to make it look a little better and not have a full top. I think it looks pretty cool so far. I'll post up some pics when I get to the computer later tonight or tomorrow. I'm really starting to like this thing. Last edited by crawler nut; 02-25-2012 at 10:11 PM. |
