which is tougher? I understand they are two different vehicles but which needs less upgrades?

i would say the the stock wraith is better than the stock scx10. however, they both needs some upgrades

if you drive the wraith as slow as you would with an scx10, it's tougher

Well, none of them NEED upgrades.

What you need to ask is what you will be using it for. An SCX10 is much more of a "scaler". They are capable, don't get me wrong, but they are slower, more limited in their crawling ability. They are built off a ladder style frame, so your options for bodywork is almost limitless. Now if you want to get into the scale aspect of the hobby, then hands down it is the way to go. SO much aftermarket support and ways to go with builds.

The Wraith on the other hand is more of a rock racer. Built as a dual purpose rig. Faster, bigger, 2.2 tires vs. 1.9s. If you are looking for more of a "basher" rig, then go with the Wraith.

I built a few Honchos, but they were not what I was looking for. I have my XR10s for crawlers, so built the Wraiths as a good middle ground between the crawlers and the Rustlers/Slashes. I think it fits nicely as an all around truck. It is the truck that I was trying to make my Honchos into.

If you know anyone that has one or the other (or both), or are near a LHS, check them out. Drive one and see.

Oh, and to be honest, you will probably buy one, then buy the other to try it out anyway. Feed the addiction.........

The best way to get an answer to this question is to get one of each.

I have to disagree. the faster gearing and motor of the wraith mixed with the larger 2.2's makes the wraith MUCH more fragile as there is much more strain on the drive train.

my scx-10 and Wraith are my 2 hardest driven rigs. I have only broke a tranny output and stock plastic drive shafts on my scx-10, that with a Holmes hand wound 35t on 3s lipo, while my wraith has broken MANY more parts! internal tranny gears, spur gears, stock drive shafts, lockers (2), front axle shaft, wore out a ring and pinion set, links, steering linkage, a servo gear set, and broken the lower chassis tubes.

and I have driven my scx-10 just as hard and as fast as my wraith. as it has ran brushless and 2.2's in a rock race.

You can make a sxc go fast look up the FOFF section, but i was between both and ended up getting the wraith, like the wider axles and the 2.2, or you can make a wroncho

kinda sounds like you've made up your mind already as you want to go fast!

if you get a wraith... be prepared to DUMP cash into it to make it "bullet proof" unless you drive like a candy ass.

but once it's built. you dont have to mess with it again!

Agreed with 2500 alot of cash for steel gears driveshafts and aluminum parts but worth it. The wraith is a blast!

Im really leaning towards the wraith, I dont want to limit my speed, I used to run the clod with a nine cell battery....that thing was baaaddd.

Just like others say. The wraith for me is more fun seems to spend less time flipping. I got a good amount of upgrades right away just so i wouldnt break anything, then i drove it and i dont care how much more i put in! its just too cool.

I have both and like everyone has stated before me, they both serve a different purpose. My scx10 was built as a scaler so I'm not as hard on it as the Wraith. I drive it around the trails, do a little rock climbing and tow my Comp crawlers with it. My Wraith has been a problem from day 1, but that's probably because I expected more toughness out of it. I bash it all the time and it breaks all the time too! But sometimes that's a good thing because you'll eventually be upgrading those parts anyways. I was always after the "perfect" setup, but after a while I realize there was none. When you think you are done, better ideas, parts and setups always comes up...the possibilities are endless with the two but each walks its own path...

i guess it depends on our driving style, i only broke a knuckle on my wraith (on the first pack) and then never bbroke anything and i was driving in some scale rides with the guys.

on my stock scx10 however i broke the rear drive shaft 2 times, a shock cap and a rear body mount.

i was only refering on my personal experience.

but since Kmas you want to go fast, you will need a couple of upgrade (actually a lot) to make it reliable!! steal trany gears, alu chubs and knucles, better servo, replace all the plastic link and much more. i ordered 927$ in parts to my wraith fast (13.5t on 3 s) and to make sure it will be reliable too

and yes, buy the 2 of them

Take this advice very seriously- Buy a 4wd slash or stampede. It will save you a TON of money (seriously, hundreds if not a thousand dollars) with the go fast attitude. They are purpose-built for speed and bashing, and if they break, it will cost you about $5 to fix whatever it was

They are the definition of tough truck, built to handle 6 year olds driving them into a curb at full throttle. I have jumped my slash about 40-50 feet about 15 feet high, and landed, barrel rolled about 20 times and continued driving with no damage. Would I do that to my wraith? not even if it was free. the carnage would be insane.

I do agree with this ^^^

If you're looking for a true go fast basher, a 4x4 pede is hard to beat.
