Moved the chassis forward

Not sure if anyone else has done this, but I drilled new mounting holes where the chassis attaches to the skid plate and moved the chassis about a 1/2" forward. It puts the front and rear shocks at the same angle and in my opinion, improves the look and makes it look more balanced and scale. The front tires aren't pushed so far forwards and I think it'll help, even if just a little, with climbing ability. Watcha think?

It is hard to tell any difference from your photos...the angles are not the same. Plus you cut the fenders so it makes the eyes wonder..lol Nice that you tried being different anyway! I like the new rear cage mod!! I would like to do that with mine.

The pictures are taken from pretty much the same angle. If you look at the axle nut on the front wheel and compare it to the front bumper, you'll notice how much forward the chassis is.

the angles look ok to me .. not far enough not to see the difference .....i think it looks good , let us know if you see a change in how it drives

Maybe having something to compare in scale. The red lines show the differences. I didn't want a huge change and with 10 minutes of work, it made just enough that I like it better.

Hmmm, the "after" looks shorter, too. Not to mention the lower links don't look as flat, but I'm sure it's an optical illusion.

Is that with your newly weighted wheels?

I moved my battery to the front of the truck, this is hands down the best "free" mod I have done to my Wraith. I'm not sure how moving the chassis will help you but I hope it works.

It's funny. It is an optical illusion. It looks shorter in person too, but isn't. The links are flatter in the top picture. The top picture is with the lower link mounts flipped. The bottom picture is with the mounts in the stock position. It's hard to tell the differences by looking at the pictures, but in person, it's easy to tell that it doesn't sit like a normal wraith.

No, those are just the stockers. I'm waiting for new hardware for the bead locks before I can mount them.

My battery is already moved up front. I did this just as an experiment to see how it looked and in person, I think it looks a lot better. Like I said in the above post, it's hard to see in the pictures just how much difference it made in the looks.

I'm the curios type, let us know if it handles differently after you run it for an hour. I like the look.

I doubt it'll handle much different. Since I have the battery mounted up front already, it'll just shift the weight of the battery forward a little. Might help with crawling, who knows.

Seems like a good idea to me. I like how it looks in the after pics as well. Maybe I will have to try this someday.

What size battery are you running? I run a 5000mah....no big deal, just asking.

looks much better to me - i can tell the diff.
i was thinking of doing the same but with link length

Re: Moved the chassis forward

I tried to get another picture that might show the difference from the stock wraith. The suspension was setup exactly the same in both pictures, super soft black springs, front shocks in rear hole, rear shocks in front hole. I made the links and they area all exactly the same length as the stock links. You can see the angle change on the front shock and the position of the front tire closer in to the body. It isn't a huge change and not something I would go to great lengths to do, but it was quick and easy, so I thought what the heck, I like to be different.

Stock, with fresh paint

Chassis moved forward, not so fresh paint

Awesome!

I had mine broken down the other night and was messing with the skid plate and sliding the chassis forward as well. I think it looks much better. Like always I was making it more difficult than needed, trying to "eye build" an adjustable bar/slide system that would let me play with different distances.

Glad you bit the bullet and made it happen. Please let us know how you like it!

P.S.
Stop F-ing messing with our eyes:flipoff:
Every pic has something different Lol.

Last pic has giant steering wheel!
Argh, its like that bar game where you have to find the differences between two similar photos.
For reference sake, just show before and after with the same links, same lower mount, and same frigging wheel!:ror:

Here's a pic of the new holes I made. Screws are a little crooked but oh well

Re: Moved the chassis forward

Why? What's the point? You moved it what, about 1/4"-3/8" forward, so what were you hoping to gain? All you ended up with is a worse approach angle, and very minimal weight transfer. Just curious as to why....
