Got my 5995tg today and running it off of stock AE-2 internal BEC (5v 2A). Steering is strong and fast. End points were set to 32% for one side and 34% for the other side (stock travel was about 150 degrees, not quite 180). Need to install my BEC and get it 7v now. The 5995 will pull just about 5A at 7.4 volt when in a bind so I'm taking it easy until I get the BEC installed.

Tough choice between a 5995 ($70ish Servo City) and a 7954 ($80ish eBay).
Both servos are really close in performance but here are the main differences that I'm able to see from the spec's.
*The 5995 is no longer listed in the Hitec site (discontinue?), the only thing you can find are parts and some spec's in the archives. Future service/repairs?
*The 5995 has titanium gears and the 7954 has metal gears but they both have that MK first gear.
*The 7954 has a heat sink.
*The 5995 claims to have 180 rotation out of the box and the 7954 is set to 90 but can be program to 180 with a programmer (more money)

BTW the 7950 can be found for about $120.

The 5995 also lists that it's water tight where the doesn't. When I look at them they are pretty much the same. The 7954 is much noisier than the 5995, not that it really matters, just saying.

Also, the 7954 specifically notes that it will run off of 2S LiPo, where the 5995 notes it will run up to 7.4v. I have both and don't really see much of a difference. If it breaks Hitec will repair.

Good to hear from someone that actually has both and can do a real comparison.

I have a question on the 7954, can the rotation travel be increase past the 90 pre-set settings with the end points on a tx (DX3S or Pro).

You do realize 2S is 7.4 volts? Both are rated to work at 7.4v.

Haha, yeah, when you put it like that my comment looks a little funny. Let me try to clear it up.

7954 - it actually says for LiPo 2S on the packaging
5995 - the packaging says 6v for the specs and there's one little note on the end of the pack (in very small text) where it points out the torque at 7.4v. I'm guessing they let you know it's ok to run it that high, but it's not advertised to run at that. The instructions are pretty vague about voltage too.

Also, I haven't trusted running them straight off the LiPo yet just because the fully charged pack is 8.4v and I'm worried that's a little too much. I run the BEC at 7.0v. The other issue is my race rig runs 3S so I couldn't run the servo direct anyway.

From the factory my rotation was a bit over 90 degrees. It was more like 100 or so. I haven't tried setting the end points that far. On my XR10 the end points are at about 85% because I have a 1" servo arm on it and it's more than enough through.

Supposedly you can reprogram it to go up to 180 degrees but you'd need the servo programmer. Might be worth checking to see if anyone on here has a programmer and has tried it.

I was at the RCX Expo in Long Beach and spoke to one of the Hitec reps for a while, where he did mention that they have been running a 7954, a 7955 and a 7950 on 2S with no BEC and they have held with no problems but this was for testing purpose only but they still recommend not to run them past 7.4V .

Here's specifics on the 5995 from servocity.com: http://www.servocity.com/html/hs-5995tg_servo.html
Operating Voltage Range: 6.0-7.4 Volts

More specs on the servo. These are direct from Hitec:

So, no matter where we look there are different specs (pretty typical though). I'm going to run mine at 7v just like I do with my 7954. I think the guys at Servo City have done enough of their homework to know the servo can take it so I'm good with that

I wish I would have spent a little more time on here and found this thread sooner. I broke my first 645mg and like a dummy, just went and bought another one. Thats almost $70 I could have put towards a better servo. haha. Oh well, I guess you live and learn.
