servo help please.

ok i have gone through the threads and searched and read and priced and now my mind is junk. simply put i need to know what some of you are running on your wraith steering for servos. I dont wanna break the bank but in tired of replacing servos and stripped servo gears. I cant seem to keep a servo in this dang thing. By the way i an running the suicide switch steering do ya'll think that may be part of the problem.

What servos are you breaking?

Re: servo help please.

What servo have you tried so far? Sounds like you might need to pony up for BEC and 300+ range servo. I'm having servo issues too, I 'm on the hunt for a cheap basher servo though.

For my rockcrawlers I use Hitec and have had good luck with them.

Re: servo help please.

Started with Hitec hs 645 mg 133 oz, replaced gears x2, then went with ckrc towardpro mg 946 r 208 oz. hitecs seemed to last longer but way under powered. towardpro had decent power but didnt last long at all. I know i need to be up around 300 oz but its hard to spend 100 dollars on a servo. not a serious racer/crawler but would like something that will last more than a few hours of run time. if im gonna pony up i need to know what is the best for the buck and what brands are good/bad
as i am fairly new to this.

JR9100T. A little on the spendy side, but comes with a 3 year warranty. About 370 oz/in @ 6V, I think? If you do enough hunting, you should be able to get one for right around a hundred bucks. This will last you a few years, not just a few hours...

Re: servo help please.

The sooner you buy a 100 dollar servo the less money you have to spend before you buy the 100 dollar servo, thats how i see it. haha

I use a savox 1268, it gets the job done but it's just ok. I should have spent more on a hitec. That's just IMO

I'm running the Hitech 7954 with no bec. I am running the Holmes BRXL speed control as it comes from them with their factory settings. So far so good.

Re: servo help please.

I am running a Hitec 7954SH powered directly from the 2-cell LiPo. This thing has mad torque and strips out the plastic servo horns I am using after about 5 hours of run time. I have a ton of them around though and will continue using them untill I run out. Then I will pick up an aluminum clamping type.

#1 Dump the steering set up it is pretty hard on servo's. I use mostly Hitec 7950, 7954, 7955, and 7980 most with a BEC. Prices vary from around 100.00 to 150.00 at RPP. I've always had extremely good luck with Hitec.

will the 7980 fit on the Wraith?
And out of all the servos you mentioned. Which is the best one?

Re: servo help please.

I've used Hi-tec, Futaba, and Savox and they are all great servos. the savox 1256 that I have in my wraith is a little noisey but its pleanty strong with 277oz's at 6v with a BEC and its held up great!

Re: servo help please.

I run the 7980 as my rear steer on my Wraith! It is a very tight fit. You have to use spacers under it! I tried it on the front for a short while and it was just a little too close for personal comfort for my set up. I like the 7955 I run one on both of my wraiths and have never had any type of issue! I'm running all VP knuckles and links though too..

Re: servo help please.

I personally like my hitec 7954sh that i have actually picked up a spare if you look around you can find it for 79.99 plus shipping. Also servo city had a sweet deal on hitec 5995s for 69.99 and it was rated for 333oz at 6volts

Re: servo help please.

that steering set up is all jacked up. switch over to a tie rod and drag link set up. as for the servo there have been a ton of threads on that exact subject. personally i will only run the jr9100t or the hs7950. it is worth it to spend the money for the reliability of these servos. they wont let you down and they last a long long time. i had the savox 1256 on my wraith and IMO they suck big time. all i have on my rigs now are high tec 7950 and the jr9100t and i love every one of them.

Re: servo help please.

Ok I took chevysucks advice on the HS-5995TG servo for when my stocker goes out. $69.99 is a hell of a deal on a good servo and couldn't pass it up. My Wraith is a RTR and is stock for now but new wheels, tires, weights and a couple of other goodies are on the way. With this servo will I need to install a BEC or will I be good to go with just throwing it in? Thanks for any help you guys can give me and thanks to chevysucks for the heads up on a really good deal. Everyone loves a good deal. ;-)

Re: servo help please.

ok ditched the suicide switch steering for a rc4wd aluminum steering link setup and went with the Hitec hs 5585 servo. should be here in a few days. still alittle short of the 300 oz but everyone says hitec is the brand to roll with.

Re: servo help please.

Glad you posted this thread. I'm on the hunt for a decent servo myself and I'm also running the suicide switch kit. I'm finding that it's far from a popular choice here, so I'll probalby ditch it for drag link-tie rod set up. Gotta' spend money on new upper and lower links first, though, as my stockers are almost like rubber. Considering a set of r2j's.....if he ever replies to my PM. I know everyone likes Vanquich stuff, but they're quite spendy....especially for a week-old RTR.

Yep, the 7954SH is the way to go. I've tore up several servos and this one just won't quit. It is probably the best bang for the buck out there.

Oh, and I wouldn't run it directly off of a 2S lipo as mentioned above. Although it is rated up to 7.4 volts, a fully charged 2S lipo is over 8 volts so you will ultimately shorten the life of the servo. For servo longevity, use a BEC set at 6 volts. You'll still have gobs of torque! "thumbsup"

As yo siad good bang for the buk, but I found a 17kg torq servo digital. On hobbyking.com
Its a
Hk15288a
I use a bec at 6amps and it can lift itself. It cost me 20buks. So I got 4 of em thinkn yep this wont last long. I water proofed it. And its 4 months old ive floged it. Its had real hard hits is been under water, and has been used bak to bak useage of 3 paks.
I mean I got 3 left. So I thought bargin.
I also use a toward pro servo,a
Mg996r
Ebay 15 buks to me door. Its strong but slow. Both are full metal servos and digital. And run off a bec.
Its what works for me lol:thumbup:

Re: servo help please.

Just pulled the trigger on the HS-5995TG myself from servo city. Hard to pass up a $50.00 discount!
I have decided to install a BEC on mine, if anything to protect my investment. Seems like a small price to pay for the security it can provide when it comes to power regulation to my electronic components.
BTW, the HS-5995TG is listed with a maximum torque of 416 oz-in!
