Castle Sidewinder
Cheap 35 turn motor
Best servo you can afford, must have metal gears and 200+ oz/in would be a plus
Cheap 2.4ghz 2 or 3 channel radio, maybe search used stuff. Hobbyking.com has some super cheap systems or try and find a used Axial RTR setup (one of the newer 2.4ghz setups though)

The Axial AE-2 ESC would serve you well, and can be had for $50 or less if you look around.. I got a NIB take off from RPP for $45 and put it in my wifes scx-10.. Lipo cutoff, drag brake, instant reverse... Best bang for the buck I've ever gotten from a speedo.

I got a cheap turnigy sensored brushless esc ($40 I think) and a 3200kv motor for about the same price. It's actually worked out great! Decent top speed and low speed control and torque. But please don't cheap out on the servo! I did and it was a waste of $30 just get the savox it's worth it in the long run.

This is a damn good ESC for $57. I like it better than my MMP.

It may be a little confusing for a newb because you need to download the programming software and flash the ESC.

For a motor the Traxxas 21T 550 can is tough to beat at under $20. Crawls good and has plenty of speed. (the above esc is only brushless so this motor wouldn't work with it)

go with the stock E-maxx motor and a BRWL from Holmes that speedo is only a few dollars more than a sidewinder and a B.E.C. and will work with any usable voltage.
