That is kind of cool. I would mount my LED controller in there if anything. Prices are kinda steep. :(

Honestly if you add up the time it took to develop, make/test prototypes, the money spent on engineering fees for the actual mold Parma uses, a substantial initial order, the cost of boxes, the time it takes to ship, the price of shipping, the cost of a website, the vender star and the time it takes to respond to 100's of emails you'd see that I must be an idiot Now lets look at the corners I cut, no fancy plastic bag, no cardboard at the top of a fancy bag for pegboard hooks. No crappy instructions, no stickers, no protective film or the 2mm hex bolt for the drain I really wanted to include. Just these little goodies alone would have raised my cost 3$+ per unit. Still with me? There's more, I'm hoping to sell these to local hobby shops and online retailers alike. They will obviously want to make money so the retail price/profit margin has to be enough for them to make their 25-50% to justify selling them in the first place. 25-50% you might ask? yes the more they buy, the cheaper the cost will get, that's volume buying (Walmart). There is a trade off to volume buying, their money's going to be tied up in 500 scale oil pans until 300 of the pans are sold (assuming a 40% profit margin). The last 200 can be considered profitable but the first 300 only pay for the initial order. The little guy, your lhs will be looking at his 25% or roughly 3 bucks. The little guy has to peddle a bunch of little parts to stay in business... That's pretty much retail in a nutshell. Bottom line is I'm figuring if I'm lucky, I mean real lucky I can sell 2000 units in the first 12 months. Lets say I make them from sunshine and rainbows and they cost me nothing, not a dime... 15$ x2000 units = $30,000. So if I made them for free, and things went really well, I stand to make roughly what a counter guy at the local 7-11 makes At this point I've probably invested close to 150hrs+ of my life and I still have alot of oil pans left to sell. Looks like I'm mainly trying to leave my tiny mark on the RC world. Seeing my oil pan on hundreds of other rigs is a kind of payment all in its own. If I should happen to make some money out of the deal that'd be great. I'll only buy more toy's or maybe try inventing something else Thanks Speed "I write books" Weigand Speed wuz here! lol

I think it's a good idea, and the price really isn't too bad. Do you have the inside dimensions? Wonder if I could squeeze a tekin FX-R in there?

Speedweigand Customs scale Lexan oil pan With glue(E6000) or screws, choice is yours... this is a Universal part geared toward the Wraith so personal interpretation is encouraged Watch the first 3 minutes of this video Waterproof like a boss! I just watched part of that video and saw I was using rubber back then... epoxy it, and forget it! Thanks for the question! Speed Last edited by Speedweigand; 02-15-2014 at 11:49 AM. I can understand all that goes into it and I hope you get this out to lots of vendors and the price will eventually come down. I didn't mean to offend you in any way. It really is a cool new idea for the Wraith and a nice little storage area once mounted and sealed. I know this hobby costs money. I have spent so much already on my own Wraith I just don't feel like spending much more at this time. Maybe I will soon....hehehe. My mind changes daily...lol

But.. but at the end of the video they show a Futaba R2104GF in there and by comparison the FXR width and lenth is smaller. Height is the same thing. Think i'll give it a shot.. Last edited by Oldskoolcj; 05-17-2012 at 07:46 AM. Reason: Made some research!!

The R2104GF footprint is 26mmx39mm fwiw There is no rule that says the pan cannot be hacked up actually I encourage it This is just an oil pan for some but for others it's a new door with endless possibilities... I'm not even sure it needs to be an oil pan!

Definitely a cool product! May have to look into one for a better mounting spot for electronics.

What a cool idea.. Add a bit of scale bling and also get a nice low place to secure small electronics. |

I was thinking today a person could hide an 123 cell or 2 in there and run their lights off of that. I like having my lighting self contained for simplicity. Heck even a 9V might fit.

I had gotten a Speedweigand Scale Oil Pan quite some time ago, but could never figure out how to mount it. Today it just clicked! I trimmed a little notch in it to fit over the chassis cross member and used a small screw to mount it on. Perfect. 1 more scale point and it looks pretty cool too. Just one more small detail that makes a rig pop. :-) |
