Default VP CMS - steering issue

I may have found my answer by way of searching, but I just want to verify. I installed a VP CMS kit on my Wraith. I am using STRC C-hubs and knuckles, stock ackerman plates with VP steering linkage and drag link (standard). When I moved my servo from the diff (stock) position to the chassis, my the ball end on my VP drag link doesn't have enough pivot to reach the servo arm, too steep of an angle. I do have my steering link and drag link mounted on top of my ackerman arms - even put a small spacer between my steering link and drag link to decrease the angle.
I was able to get the drag link connected to the servo arm, kind of rigged but I got it to reach the servo arm.

Now, when I turn the wheels, my front suspension wants to "dip down" the direction that I am turning. I also get a tighter turn in one direction, than I do in the other direction. I am not running a panhard kit on it.

I am also running the Proline slash rear shocks all the way around, which is giving me a little higher ride height than stock. That could account for my issue of the angle being too steep for my drag link to reach the servo arm.

So, could my issue be that I am sitting higher than stock ride height and that I am not running a panhard kit on it? If I lower my ride height and add a panhard kit, should it fix my issue?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

You must run the panhard kit. Period.

Thanks Harley!

Do you think it's totally a panhard kit (lack of) issue then? Will the panhard kit allow my drag link (ball end) to flex at that angle to connect to my servo arm, or will I have to purchase a different drag link to make this happen?

I am planning on lowering my ride height a bit, not quite sure how I want to do it yet.

Make a s shaped drag link to reduce angles on rod ends and you can keep your lift. Just keep drag link as close to the length of panhard to reduce bumpsteer.

It's not the length that makes the bump steer its the fact that you need to keep them both at the same angle. That is the real issue with bump steer.

Very true, both are equally important

I run the CMS and the panhard and I had the same issue with the angle being too great, I run mine on top of the steering arm and it just fits ( I am using VP knuckles and Ti steering parts )

So, if I keep my drag link and panhard link at the same angle, it should eliminate my problem? I'm going to lower the ride height anyway, probably try flipping my lower shock / link mounts. I really don't want to go with a droop kit.

I did order a panhard kit from VP, last night. I will get that installed, lower my ride height and see what that does.

Thanks for the help everyone!!!

I am dealing with a similar issue with my Wraith and I am running the panhard.
I have Axial aluminum knuckles and STRC c hubs.
I have tried to shim up the drag link and use a longer bolt and can get my drag link to the servo horn, but when I cut the wheels to the left I get the left side of the axle compressing the suspension.

Any ideas or advice?

Did you remove the upper driver side suspension link? You have to run a "3 link" setup to keep the suspension from binding. The panhard kit and the 3 link setup cured my issue.
Make sure your steering link and drag link aren't binding. Also check that the flange pipes were reinstalled in the c-hubs, when the knuckles were put one. They can be slippery little devils and fall out during assembly.

Yes, I removed the passenger side upper link, and the flange pipes are definitely in the c hubs.
I have called Vanquish and still do not have a solution short of buying Vanquish high steer knuckles... anyone want to buy some alloy axial knuckles with 2 hours on them?

I'm running VP CMS & panhard with STRC knuckles and C hubs, and no issues.

Also, are the drag link and panhard linkages at the same angle?

Drag ling is a little steeper than the panhard link

If you can post some pics, that would be great. Maybe one of us can see what's causing your problem.

OK, my LHS hooked me up with a longer servo horn and it's all good now. Thanks for the replies!
