It's that time of the year again! Working on the Wraith a little bit more. Installed new bearings and Vanquish VVDs last night and gave it a cleaning. Also added a light bar (no LEDs yet) and rebuilt the shocks. New shocks are definitely on my list next. Just ordered MIP driveshafts today too!

Wired up my own custom LED kit for the lightbar tonight. Decided to save the Rigid LED bar for the JK.

Dash switch is the main power, center console switch is the 5 LED bar.

Used 3.3v Super Bright White LEDs and 22ohm resistors on the positive lead of each one, which is then wired to my 2S main battery. Works like a champ! Bring on the Axialfest night stages.

I made a miscalculation on my LEDs and the resistor. Just that 5 LED bar by itself is drawing .7Amps, so I think I need to go to a 200-240ohm resistor instead of the 22ohms that are in there. They get a little toasty and I don't think they need to draw that much power. But they supa bright! haha

Well I replaced the 22ohm 1/8 watt resistors with 220ohm 1/4 watt and the brightness went down a bit, but my current draw is also only .1Amp now! Happy face.

Playing around with dressing up the engine bay and hiding the winch servo and battery a little more. EXO engine fit with a little trimming. Complete with a custom wrap and looks pretty decent! Now I just need to make the inner fender liners to really hide everything from the outside.

Looking good Ty!!

I just realized our paint schemes are closer than I thought

Thanks for the LED info. I'm still in need of lights before Axialfest, so it might come in handy later this week

Yep they are similar! Good choice in colors.

The LEDs were actually pretty easy, I thin I could get away with a smaller resistor and get a little more light out of them, but they work pretty good. Would need a bigger one if you run them off a 3S.

Nope, not naming it Recon. I just called the thread that since I use it for RECON G6ing.

Got the MIP shafts, took me a half hour to install them. One set screw decided it wasn't going to come out so I had to attack it with a Dremel.

Whipped up some inner fender liners for the front, hides everything nicely. Wrapped in carbon vinyl!

You have a very nice wraith. What is the top speed for it with your setup? I'm still trying to pick between going with a kit or a RTR. Any thoughts on which would be better for a person new to the hobby of RC? P.S I really like how you setup your spare tire.

Thanks! It was an RTR that is slowly evolving over time. Top speed is just a little faster than the stock setup and a lot of torque!

Kits are always more fun to build, if you're into building them. For a crawler/rock racer though, I'd almost always suggest kit over RTR if possible. That way you know every inch of it and how to take it apart for maintenance/repairs. All I had when I got mine was the RTR, so my choice was sort of easy haha.

Thanks you for the info. A crawler/rock racer is what I have in mind for the RC I get. I have an 02 Jeep TJ I wheel and the local ORV park put in a RC course and after watching them in action I'm about ready to pull the trigger on one. They look like a lot of fun.

I think kit or RTR comes down to money and know how. being my first RC car I wanted something I could play with and learn on and went with an RTR. having no electronics or tools to start out with, needing to buy it all ontop of the kit was just to costly and building it from scratch to overwhelming.

now that I've played with mine abit, upgraded / fixed it multiple times, I feel I'd have no problems building one from a kit given the time and money. but for my first car I'm glad I went with RTR.

Looks like Ty and I bought Wraiths about the same time. No kit then.
My first RTR. A lot of parts got replaced on both.
Though Ty's is prettier than mime. Where did the carbon vinyl come from?
