Good progress.

I'm still hoping you give the EXO narrow wheels a try with a pair of the big 2.2's. They fit pretty well and give you a much better width/offset to match the rear. Plus the wheel design matches the stock wraith wheels.

Honestly, I liked the width with the Integy wheels, just never put the rears on because they're a PITA with those tiny screw that hold the hub/nut on.

Was debating VP wheels for it. Hopefully VP gets some Exo CVDs out soon.

lol, I think you got more than a month before it's on a shelf, but I wouldn't be surprised if it came out in a couple years. I think you are on to something. I've seen one like this before, but as more and more IFS builds are done, the more the demand for a factory truck like this will become.

More progress. Simple, really.

Sharpie and Dremel are the tools I've been using. I used the hack saw pictured earlier to cut the chassis and that was it.

Finished getting the left side of the Exo cage grafted into the Wraith cage. Pinned the driver's side Wraith B pillar to the Exo cage.

Also cleaned up all of the areas where I cut "excess" off of the Exo cage.







Again, the shocks are not where they will be when done, so don't give me shit about shock angles on the rear.


Got this far, going to pin the passenger side Wraith B pillar and that'll be it for tonight. I went ahead and uploaded these pics because the internet here at the hotel isn't the greatest and takes a while.

We're up doing the house search thing so I messed around a bit more.

Stuck the Exo light bar on, along with DTP's old body panels. I left the rear loose, but this helps me see what I'll need to do when it comes time to panel it.

Not too sure of this light bar. One of the Chino units will likely go on. Less cabling and a cleaner look.

The Axial CVD's are out, they held up well with 2.2's and a castle 3800 4 pole. They may not be as fancy as VP's when they come up but they are up to the task if you need something now.

What I like most about this build is the fact that you used an Exo for the front end. It would be cool to put the independent rear on as well. I've seen people do this with traxxas slash/stampede 4x4 drive trains, but with the Axial stuff it's essentially "stock". Very cool.

What would be the point of putting on the indy rear??? If he did that he might as well never have even cut it up

You'd want the independent rear because they tend to handle better and are a little tougher. It's like building a very tall and top heavy Exo. Someone may do that purely because they like the way it looks. Not everything we do in the hobby makes a ton of sense from a "why did you hack up two perfectly good trucks to make a new one" point of view

But, the builds I saw the guys used front/rear independent suspension because they had the parts and the trucks were already hacked up. The solid rear is more scale looking, but the independent suspension from the traxxas is designed for racing and much more robust to jumps and bashing. I think the idea was to eliminate the issues they were having with breaking the Axial axles (there are a bunch of youtube videos showing people snapping the front axle on the Wraith when running on a stadium course). That was before the aluminum rear lockouts were also available. These builds were a few years ago when the Wraith first came out before the Exo was available.

The problem is when you use the Wraith for bashing or racing like a stadium truck, you find it's not intended for that. I agree that it's probably a waste to cut the Exo up to swap the front and rear, but some may like the larger more square look of the Wraith. I'm sure over time we may even see Exo's with Wraith rear axles strapped to them.

if your looking for a better rim, I been using my 2.2 bio hazard wheels from rc4wd, most of their 2.2 have a good off set it clears the steering on the exo great job on the build, also the exo engine i been using one on my wraith and really cool seeing someone else doing it too!

I have a set of wheels in mind (RC4WD Predators) but they hit the Exo knuckles. Will have to see what I can do. Would like Walker Evans wheels on it.

Cage/tube work is done. The only thing left to do is finish the three tubes at the forward overhead portion of the cabin behind the light bar. I shortened the Exo piece to fit what's left of the Wraith cabin.

young_version gave me some shocks that are perfect for what I want to do on the rear.

No idea what they're from - maybe the Venom Creeper - but the length is right for what I'm doing.






I also picked up a RC4WD driver today. He will go under the knife later tonight. Should be pretty cool. Some say he naturally faces magnetic north, and all his legs are hydraulic.
