well, everything seems to be good after the little mud i actually got to play in, except for the motor. before i had a chance to get very muddy we were bombing up and down some dirt hills. the motor sucked in a bunch of silty fine dirt, then i hit some water and it was dead within a couple minutes. gotta tear the motor out and clean it up.

Diesel wanted to get rid of the plastic chassis on his Wraith - No one likes building alone. SO we set out on a mission. We defiantly did not take photos but heyho - a few hours down we are off to a good start.

More to come....

i started out with an idea that has since been abandoned. i originally wanted to do a 90s, Ivan Stewart toyota body on a tube chassis like Turtle's "taco time" rig. then as we kept building, it looked so good i decided to ditch the body idea. the chassis is coming along, hopefully its drive-able by this weekend's BITs series event.

work has been slowly continuing on the cookie cutter, the welding is almost done, then she'll need panels, scale shit and a winch.

i mounted up a set of RC3WD Two-Faces on some new Mayhem Engineering Monster EX wheels, in my favorite color. they're also made in a new offset that Mayhem is trying, i'm sitting at 11 3/8" wide with .450 hubs. IMO this is the perfect track width for my rig and the different hubs give you the options you need if you want a little wider.

sorry for the shitty iphone pics, i was feeling lazy this morning.

not such a cookie cutter anymore. the skill some of you guys have building these tube chassis blows my mind. TIG is a process i have extremely little expierence with. you guys make it look easy.

Liking those new Mayhems, truck is looking good. Was re-reading your thread here and saw my error on CF tubing diameter to reinforce the stock WB8 driveshafts...corrected my post on page 1 or 2 of your build.

To reinforce WB8 driveshafts use 0.228" od CF tube for inside the male driveshaft peice, cut to length and just CA them in. Don't forget to put the screw down inside the shaft first.

i threw some longer shocks onto the new chassis, tomorrow (at the crawl spot) ill solder in a 35t motor ad do some crawling.

full bump sits at 1 7/8" belly height and 4" at full droop.

almost too much articulation, gonna need a rear sway bar.

tucks into the chassis nicely.

again, shitty iphone pics, sorry.

Looking good mate. I can't wait to finish up the last of the metal fab on it and get some body panels.
She will really be a looker then.

ok, new shocks are out. turns out they ride to tall and theyre too soft. id have to redo all the shock mounts to make them work properly, so back to the stock length. ill eventually invest in some better shocks. i also placed an order with RPP for a few of the things i need to get this thing wrapped up. no pics from today, sorry.

I thought they'd be too long but sometimes have to try it to be sure. 3.5" seems good Wraith length to me....that's why I run the losi 3.5" shocks.

4" is a good length for this chassis. the shock mounts were built for them. i actually decided to flip the lower mounts as well. sitting nice and low now.

Diesel came by the house this weekend to finish up the buggy...... Are they ever finished? Of course we took 3 steps back instead of 4 forward to finished. Scale sexiness took priority and metal was melted......

Sitting just like a real KOH buggy before yet another tear down....

Every rig needs a spot for a fuel cell...

We started in on the new rear shock mounts but I haven't taken any photos. And the fuel cell has a few more details to be added. See how much time this week affords me to work on her......

Never a dull moment in the Southern Monkey garage....

Put some more time in on Diesel's wraith, the shock mounts were stumping us pretty good - then it hit me. CAD work was done, Diesel approved the design and began cutting.......
And I welded.

And by the powers of the welding STig - we have scale welds.

And the sexiness keeps adding up.

I have a few more tricks up my sleeve for this thing. I think I am going to skip work one day this week just to throw more time at it - Should be some hottness coming.

if i didnt live so far away i'd be there every day. i gotta give DoubleJ a lot of credit on this chassis, he's good at what he does and he's been getting better throughout this build. its been a joint venture all the way, i gotta learn to TIG myself. next weekend we'll make more progress and i'll start a new thread over in the 2.2 scale section.

So what is stig welding exactly? Those welds look to small to be done with a stick and filler rod which is my understanding of stig welding.
