Default Rear cage mod question - aluminum links

I've started on the rear cage mod on my wraith. I've got the rear cage cut off. I'm going to use the aluminum links with some leftover rod ends from my kit.
My stock rod ends aren't fitting over the bars of my cage. I'm a little confused at this point. Do I have to drill out the rod end so it fits over the bars? Where exactly on the cage and chassis do the rod ends go? Is there something I'm missing?
Also, after I cut my rear cage off, trimmed and sanded, what can I do to the sanded areas to get rid of the lighter color sand marks? Make it look more finished. I tried a black sharpie, but it had a purple hue to it. Wondering if I could use a flat or satin black paint marker on it, or use a little heat on it to get rid of the sand marks?

Thanks for the help!

To get rid of the sand marks you could even just squirt a little wd40 or shock oil or diff oil or whatever on a paper towel and wipe it down. As for the other stuff, there's no real "right way" to do it. Try just hogging out some material from the rod ends.

I did mine a bit different. Instead of using rod ends, I used grub screws, drilled and tapped the end of the bent portion, drilled and tapped through the rod and fastened it like that. In my opinion it's cleaner and more flush.

very nice mod. As I get closer to getting one of these rigs, I find more and more chassis mods that make huge visual differences.
