Default Yeah I Know Another Gearing Question

Well everything i read does'nt answer my questions(well almost).I understand how to gear depending on what i want the wraith to do,but seems that most are going with different motors.Well for now i want to keep the stock 20T motor and re-gear the transmission that way the motor will run cooler and gain a little more torque. So here's my questions, can i just drop down to a 19T or a 18T pinion,or will i have to change the spur as well? My apologies if this has been asked before.

You can't go too much smaller with stock spur gear. I think 19T is all....which is not much. I have played around with smaller ones but the motor clearance is super tight even with stock 20T.....I guess they thought 4:1 is best!! Spur is 80T pinion 20T. You could try 32P spur and pinions. It comes down to experimenting, and a little money out!! Heheheh I know this hobby eats money fast!

To keep the temps down and not burn your motor you will need to be about 14/87. Your final ratio needs to be over 6 to 1. I have some friends that used the 14/87 ratio and they are still using the stock motor and it has been about 5 months.

I figured i would eventually dish out some money on this hobby, but it sure is cheaper than building a 1/1. theloudone since a 19T won't change the gear ratio that much i'll probably go ahead and change the spur as well. ZippoMan and k goodrich if i go with 32P 14T pinion 87T spur will that be a final gear ratio of 6 to 1 without changing the gears in the diffs? Also with a 87T spur can i still use the gear cover? I really appreciate the help folks!

32 pitch running a 14t, i would think the 54t (32p) traxxas slash spur would be your best bet for crawling?

87 spur is a 48 pitch gear. Staying with 48p is fine for the stock motor. 87/14 is best for the stock motor.

So would 32P 14T pinion and 54T spur still give it some decent speed as well? I ask because i don't mind losing some speed, but i'm not wanting to slow it down for crawling only.

That is the exact same as stock. You need to gear it way down if you want the motor to survive. You will lose most of the speed. If you want the speed you need to change the motor. That's why you see all of us doing these swaps like you mentioned.

Thanks Harley for clearing up the gear pitch,i would've been looking all over for a 32P 87T spur.

Yeah i definitely want to slow it down cause it's way too fast for what it is,and i was'nt trying to be rude or anything when i said everyone seemed to be going with different motors. I figure when the stock one on mine goes i'll be looking into upgrading to a better one.
