Super 300HD bushings V2 Today I'll make new bushings for my HD universals. Aluminum bronze is the first material I'll test. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/...oads/image.jpg Don't hurt your neck looking at this. I'll rotate it later. J |
Super 300 HD universal bushings Done. That bushing's done. Man I love cutting this stuff so smooth and easy. The thinbit worked like a champ. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/...ds/image-1.jpg http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/...ds/image-2.jpg http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/...ds/image-3.jpg http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/...ds/image-6.jpg Will upload more to photobucket later. What a pain via mobile. |

It's nice to have smooth steering again. I'll crank out another set of 8 for backups and I shouldn't have to make them again for some time. |
Re: SkaldidDog's "Buck-Nasty" Wraith Very nice!!! Love the uni's"thumbsup" |
Re: SkaldidDog's "Buck-Nasty" Wraith Great work on the bushings Joel...always enjoy seeing the in process photos 8) |

Re: SkaldidDog's "Buck-Nasty" Wraith You should put that blue star to use and start selling those bushings. |

I have endless patience for making parts, and none for dealing with irrational people. I appreciate your suggestion but I'm sorry. J |
Lower COG I'm making some purely performance oriented mods. I raked the upper front shock mounts back to the center hole. I had to re-tune the steering and drag link spacer on the nuckle. The front has about 0.25" more vertical travel and rides lower. I'll have to keep an eye on how often the servo horn meets the front upper link axle mount. They can get in each others way now. I swapped the rear upper shock ball end for the shorter version. This shortened the shock by 0.1". I made some new rear shock spring retainers that won't fall off, spit the springs and fit the Losi springs nice and snug. These also lowered the springs in relation to the shock body. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/...MG_09061-1.jpg http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_09071.jpg The big change however is the battery. It's going under the drivers seat. The ESC is also moving all the way back to the firewall and as low as possible. It'll take some creative lexan work to make it all look good but it won't be a problem. This will dramatically improve weight distribution and finally put some weight on the rear of the truck to keep it from being so twitchy. These are just picture to show position. Many parts to make. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_09101.jpg http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_09111.jpg J |
Re: SkaldidDog's "Buck-Nasty" Wraith Very nice mods, think I'd leave the esc up front and move just the battery otherwise you're going to lose a LOT of climbing ability. |
Re: SkaldidDog's "Buck-Nasty" Wraith Joel these mods are great man, and those bushings are a work of art, but back to the scissor lift :ror: where can I find one? You could post up a custom milled diamond encrusted beer coozie and I'd still find myself staring that damn lift... Nonetheless KILLER build champ. I always like peeking in here every few days to see what you've done"thumbsup" |

Re: SkaldidDog's "Buck-Nasty" Wraith I have a set of tomy's slw brake rotors you are welcome to have for some scale knuckle weight holders..... |

In 1:1 you can buy a $500 part, break it on your first run and thats life in a severely abusive hobby In 1:10, you get to severely abuse the part for 6mths, break it and then demand a free replacement. The mentality in the hobbies is severely different. How are you liking those Kyosho shocks? I would love to try them but like to run the same shocks on all my cars and my pocketbook does not like the idea of changing 3 cars right now. I think I would just try a hardened steel on those joint cups. Works for xr shafts.. |

Ever changing... New ESC location looks like this. I'll trim the end of the CF ESC plate. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_09121.jpg New battery tray ready to be born. Work holding done. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_09131.jpg Bye bye endmill cutting edges. J |
Re: SkaldidDog's "Buck-Nasty" Wraith Wow, your work and machining is completely unreal. This whole build is inspiring. Wish I had access to some of that sweet machining gear. Nicely done. |

Stealth Battery Made some good progress on a covert spot for a 3250 3s pack: under the drivers seat. Made a carbon fiber battery plate, Lexan fire wall and wheel well liner. No crap is getting in my spur. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_09141.jpg http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_09161.jpg Blacked out the topside of my batteries so they don't stand out. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_09171.jpg Put a tab on the drivers seat so it straps down under the battery strap. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_09181.jpg http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_09191.jpg http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_09201.jpg Sneaky! http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_09231.jpg http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_09241.jpg http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_09251.jpg More later. Enjoy. J |
Re: SkaldidDog's "Buck-Nasty" Wraith Thats some 007 shizz there, nice work |
Re: SkaldidDog's "Buck-Nasty" Wraith Ya know, I just read this thread from the beginning. Don't get me wrong, you have a very nice rig. But what really impresses me is that you do everything on old school mills and machines. You sir have some serious skills, nice work. "thumbsup" |

Back of the tub... I've never really liked the wide open back of the drivers compartment so I closed off the tub with a tidy panel. Plenty of room for sponsors logos here. I like the way it completes the look. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_09311.jpg Up next, backup bushings and titanium rear axles...then to a custom jig for softening springs8). Stay tuned. J |
Toasted Bushings I can't really complain about their duty-cycle but my knuckle bushings are toast. Time to install some fresh new ones. This is my last set of brass ones. I'll make the next set from aluminum bronze per my HD universal bushings. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_12491.jpg The worst offender is the top passenger where the drag link torques on on all of the time. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_12501.jpg But my universal bushing are showing no signs of wear after several packs of hard beating. The brass ones were starting to fail by this point in comparison. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_12511.jpg To anyone that may question the durability of VP axle housings for some odd reason...don't. Trust me, they take a beating and keep coming back for more. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_12531.jpg http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_12521.jpg More soon. Rear springs just can't be soft enough. Trailing arms coming up. J |
Re: SkaldidDog's "Buck-Nasty" Wraith Nice work as always Joel. I dig the rear cage construction/execution. Looking forward to seeing your trailing arms. My build will need some soon as well. |

Whatever man. Your JNC unit might be running 1950's Russian technology but it can still crank out some cool shit! Read a little further back in your thread too. Nice work on the cvd bushings. I like custom parts! |
Re: SkaldidDog's "Buck-Nasty" Wraith Thanks Rob. On the trailing arm front, Jake clarified that I should make them. They have pros and cons but he said I'd be better off with them. Looks like I'll take advantage of the incoming rain this weekend and make some cool parts. Hope to get the knuckle bushings swapped out tonight. Looking forward to seeing more of your cool ass one-off stuff soon. J |

Re: SkaldidDog's "Buck-Nasty" Wraith Hang in there Rob. I'm working on it today. Got my stock squared off before breakfast. A nice rainy day in Southern California is a perfect day to get stuff done. J |
