Default HD Differential gears binding.

So, I just got HD gears for my axial wraith and scx10, and they seem to start getting stuck to each other. On the wraith in the middle of a run it completely jammed, and would not spin at all. On my scx it has the same effect, where it doenst spin smoothly like it should. Any suggestions, am i doing something wrong?

Try removing the gasket between the locker and ring gear.
Or bad bearings?

You got enough lube in there? A nice marine grease works good. Otherwise not sure what could cause the jam. Are things all nice and aligned and carrier holders tight.

Make sure you didn't install the diffs backwards. That will tend to cause binding issues . Check your manual and pull off the diff cover, look at what side the ring gear should be on. Flip around if needed

I actually had this same prob with a set i got for a scaler and come to find out they where defective. the teeth where to long and the actually diff was too thick making it impossible to use them because of the binding.

Wow defective! That is a bummer. I guess Axial has quality control issues! They have had many problems in general...little ones but when added up they are BIG!! It sucks.

OP.. do the diffs sit nice and snug in the axle? the caps aren't stretched are they?

And what brand did you buy? Hot Racing or Axial?

This is what I was initially thinking... but in all reality diff orientation really shouldn't have an affect on anything as the front is the rear switched and vice versa.

The gears are all going in the right direction, the lockers are made by hot racing and the gears them selves are made by axial.

How about the diff holders? Are they stock plastic or upgraded aluminum? I use STRC diff holders. STRC STA80070BK Alum Internal Diff Holders Axial Wraith

I would remove the rear section of the case so you could spin the yolk and witness the ring gear spinning. If it spins free, move to see why it binds when put together. If it happens when apart you should be able to feel/see it happening.

Are your ring screws flush with the ring? I know on mine they are not because I am using cap heads and they stick up a bit. I was worried about clearance issues but so far mine are awesome!!
