| IFS Wraith Army: #4 Redrum Ultra
Everyone has seen JIA's IFS Wraith. When I saw it, I knew I had to have one someday. Well, some day happened this past week. Jason did his magic with my old wraith and a brand new Exo kit. I watched some of the live feed Jason ran while building IFS #4 during my lunch break and couldn't help but smile knowing I would be the new "Papa" of an IFS Wraith. It was 95% finished when I stopped by his house after work (the cold pack of beer I brought over stopped all progress, ). Seeing one in person is better than the pictures posted here. Well I got home and needed to finish up the remainder of the electronics and shocks, which I did not have at the time, so it would be ready for Sunday's GTG. Here are some pics the finishing touches. How it came home from JIA's house. How the rear shock needs to be mounted for proper alignment. I had to do some clearance modding for the Proline Power Strokes. The ball ends were a little bit too wide. Nice fit. Ready for the electronics. Easy access to the guts of it all. I guess I skipped some pics but, here is the receiver box. The wraith panels fit, with very little modding. The front half is the same but, the rear is just 2 new holes and a little heat gun action to make it around the new rear end. These IFS Wraiths are BEAST going flat out on the terrain and can hug the rocks like a crab. If you get a chance, get one. You will not regret it. Russ, you didn't need to mod the arms for the shocks. Instead just swap the stock Pro-line lower ball for an Axial one. Looks good. Can't wait to see it in action tomorrow. Between you, Young_version, and DTP it'll be fun to watch. Oh, you can cut those zip-ties now. |

So, do these thing actually handle better than the solid axel versions? Or is it just about scale & coolness factor? (of which there is plenty of)

| Re: IFS Wraith Army: #4 Redrum Ultra Tires are 5.2" tall. Went out to do a test run this morning with a bunch of local guys and the other IFS owners (DTP, young_version, JIA) and the visiting Badger. IFS did some amazing lines, up, down, side hill, and speed run over rough terrain(2-3" rocks). Made the speed runs feel like I was driving a short course truck, not even exaggerating. This is a "do it all" set up, I'm sure yours is the same, too. I love this rig! Last edited by RusT808; 10-17-2012 at 04:12 PM. Reason: not 4-5" rocks, that would be incredible. haha |

My intent was to build a rig that would go fast and be stable at speed but still crawl well. These rigs do just that. The local guys that saw mine run when I was testing it HAD to have one. Since then other people have seen theirs and want rigs. I've built three for guys on the island and have six more getting parts together. Click my sig for more info.

this thing is sweet, but i see a problem. when rock crawling, you want the belly of your rig to be as level as possible. on your rig, your skid plate is leaning to one side. maybe it is just because you havent tuned it, or maybe there is something wrong with the geometry. here take this as an example: his belly is almost perfectly level. and he is running rear indpendant suspension. no that is not a rhino. i would try tweaking around with the spring rates, and measure to see what the best combinations are. |

You just need to realize what you're looking at and how it's different from these rigs. There's a big difference between IFS/SA rear and IFS/IRS. An Exo would behave like what's in that picture. A hybrid of the two won't. I've got spring rates/shock oils pretty much dialed in for these things (amazing that bench "squish test" came out right) but Young_version has been playing with spring rates/springs on the rear of his to suit his driving style. Rus, did you put on a rear sway yet? Last edited by JasonInAugusta; 10-22-2012 at 03:27 PM.

In one of the pictures, the passenger rear tire is sitting on my case of screws. In the flex shot, it is maxing out. This rig will out crawl a lot of SA Wraiths, and it's suspension has not been worked on. I'm running the shocks how they come out of the box w/stock 30wt oil. Then again, this is a scale rig, not a comp rig.

The Rig looks great! Can't wait to see some vid. By the way what tires are those? They look perfect on there.
