servo question

ok so im rite in the middle of my build and my buddy calls and tells me he is having trouble with the new servo he just got . It just happens to be exactly the same one i bought to put in mine so i figure i better figure out the problem before mine has problems . so what hes go is a wraith with a hitec HS 7954-SH he is running a mmp esc , i cant remember the motor but its brushless on 3s . now he said he turned the power up with castle link bec now set on 6 volts ,but when he turns wheels left and right real fast repeadly in just a few sec the light on the reciever will turn red and the servo will skip a few moves then it goes back to working a few sec then samething . Does anybody no whats causin this ? is it anything to worry about . you really dont turn you wheel like that in real life anyway lol

sounds like its browning out from the servo drawing more power then what available. might ned to buy a castle 20 amp regulator and run the reciever power seperate from the motor

did he pull the red wire from the esc rx plug?

I think he's running the internal ESC bec and used the castle link to adjust volts.

If he is not running an external bec, then he is "browning out" the rx by working the servo back and forth quickly. He can try to add a power cap to the rx (just plugs into a spare channel) or add a BEC like others have said. I don't run a BEC or cap myself and don't have any issues since when your running the truck your not going to be cranking the wheel back and forth like that to brown it out.

+2 on the external bec. Castles internal bsc has been known to not be able to handle the power draw from hi-powered servos. There really easy to install and it should solve your friends servo issue.

I kinda though it mite be browning out ,but it just seemed odd that as long as your driveing it it seems to be fine even when it gets bound up ,and hes turning on the wheel pretty hard it wont do it . Like i sais only when you act a fool and just go from left to right really fast . I will tell him ,but to be on the safe side i ordered a castle bec for my own rig even though it mite not do it when just driving i dont want mine to act like that at all ! thanks for all you replies guys

Get a CC BEC, set that puppy to 7.4 and you should be good to go. That's my current set up and it works awesome.

BEC is good for a higher end servo? I'm running small time stuff. Shouldnt need one? I havent had issues so far.
I'm running one from a RTR 8ight Truggy.

Definitely use an external BEC. I had the exact same problem trying to use the internal BEC.

I have the same servo with an external CC 10 amp BEC set to 7.1v. Works amazingly well, I highly recommend your friend get one.

my cheap turnigy track star esc is doing great with the internal bec. i got out my volt meter and its putting out 5.7 volts so it must be set to put out 6volts. never had any issues even with the tires wedge in the rocks and hanging on the wheel
with the same servo i also had no issues with the sv2 internal bec. but i definatly have a low end not super powerfull servo. this its only rated for 290oz

well i order 2 castle 10amp bec today one for me ,and one for my bro . Now to just make sure he pays me back for it
