Default gearing question

im putting a 27t motor in my wraith and was going to go with a 84/15 gear set-up but was thing if stock is 80/20 would 84/15 be pretty much the same as stock?

id like to have good crawling but speed when i need it. thats why i thought 27t motor and 84/15 would be good. help keep motor from running hot but also give good torque with ok speed am i wrong ?

Read this thread if you haven't already done so.
Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

80/20 = 4:1 gear ratio
84/15 = 5.6:1 gear ratio
84/15 is a lower gear ration than 80/20

I would probably start out with a gear ration closer to 5:1, check temperatures and adjust if needed.

Depending on your motor you might be better off with 32P gears.
That would in 54/11 32p range to start.

On the 32 pitch you can go to the 56 and still get the cover back on. I'm running a 55T motor with 56/12 (4.666) ratio. Ran for more than an hour never got hot. Crawls great but for get the speed. It's about as fast as a trot.

ok i kind of understand i wasnt seeing how to get the ratio but now im understanding I'm waiting on a 84t spur gear so i think im going to try a 80/17 which i understand to be a 4.70:1 ratio I'm just hoping it doesnt make my motor run to hot
