Default Faster Wraith or get a Slash?

So I'm at a bit of a crossroads, still like the Wraith but like many I want more speed. Wraith is pretty standard, Tekin brushless, MMP, MIP driveshafts, Axial dig, TSL boggers on RC4wd wheels. Overall fun RC but I dont G6 or do much "bashing".

Went out today to the lhs with a buddy who picked up a used 2wd Slash and hit the short course track. The Wraith does pretty good actually but is sort of boring as it just doesnt have the speed. I have the Tekin 17.5 redline, not sure how much faster a 13.5, 10.5, or Pro4 would make it. Not really interested in going the ExoWraith route, however it is very cool, but the idea is to not sink another 1K+ into another rig.

So can I make the Wraith fun enough to screw with my buddies on the short course track or do I need to just get a Slash?

I have searched and found lots of info but just wanted to some first hand info from those with much more experience than me.

Thanks!

Might as well pick up a 2wd slash, they can be had used for about what you paid for your esc+motor.

A blitz would be a better way to go imo. You can find em relatively cheap 100-150 which is what most used slashes I have seen go for and I put my blitz through hell and it just keeps goin.

I have all 3,

Exo pretty must stock sup except for pro-line shocks. Rx8 / pro4 4000
Wraith, pro-line shocks, mmp / pro4 4000. Lots of up grades.
Slash 2wd, pretty much stock, rpm arms and a couple of odds and ends, VXL system.

Exo. A BLAST to drive wicked fast, pretty good on a track. have broke arms in the front and hinge pins. (pretty strong)

Wraith. Pretty fast!!!! but dosent handle very good on a track or off. but fun to scale and jump over stuff, lots of up grades, (pretty strong)

Slash, VERY fast and handles better than a Wraith, but NOT the exo. VERY strong.

I run all my stuff on 3s

So....if your going to BEAT the shit out of it, I say a Slash.

If you want a GOOD all around go EXO, but have spares.

On the track my EXO kicks ass but it brakes sometimes if I dont land right off doubles and triples.

If you run 4 paddles on 3s, the EXO is OUT OF CONTROL FUN!!!!!

Thanks for all the feedback! I was hoping that adding a Pro4 or 10.5 Tekin to the Wraith would be a good idea but maybe not. I am trying to limit my number of RC's as I can't seem to keep anything stock for long. I love the Exo but thats out due to previous sentence.

Get the exo...... Similar parts and build as the wraith, not a ton of upgrades available,so it won't break the bank.

I love mine, runs like a raped ape

I have both a Wraith and a slash. I tried the whole fast wraith thing and got tired of it real quick. It doesn't handle well enough to go fast IMO.But on the other hand a slash is made to handle. So you can throw a lot of power to it and keep it on it's wheels pretty easily. So if I had a vote I'd say keep the wraith for crawling/trails.Then pick up a slash to run with your buddies.

Like, the idea of the EXO with your question of Mo Money to sink.
The EXO kit is a great deal man, like just did all the STRC upgrades from RPP Hobby and Amain Hobby price matched which saved @$30.00.
So getting to the point:
$200 kit.
$200 Upgrades.
$200 BL Combo.

@ $600.00 bottom line plus spare servo and battery's and some paint.
THAT'S ALL

if you install an open front diff in your Wraith, it'll handle the speed much better.

This, that way you two have same truck more evenly matched and fun that way. I've had both and Slash 4x4...Wraith is great crawler/basher but no match for Slash in terms of track time.

Thanks again for the all the replies! It looks like the Slash may be the way to go. Like many I have the "other half" I need to consider, adding parts to the Wraith is easy, adding another car is a little more difficult to sneak past her

(edit, nice beach-running vid BTW)^^^

I have no experience with the exo, but I've owned many slashes, both 2wd and 4wd.
Have to agree with the idea of getting a cheap used slash...but I don't care for the high COG on the stock slash 2wd. The last one I had...I took two rustler frames and made one long one out of it giving me a home-made LCG slash. It handles a LOT better and was a LOT tougher too. The rear of the stock 2wd slash frame is weak and desparatly needs that chassis saver that pro-line makes.

On the wraith side of things, again I agree with the open diff suggestion. I am running open diffs on my wraith M/T conversion and it does make it a lot easier to control as you go faster with it.

Yeah digging up my own old thread. Well I got a used Slash for a killer price, couldnt be happier with it. Proline everything, works great. Even put my RTR Wraith wheels/tires on it for bashing, made it even more fun.

Yet here I am still wanting to change the Wraith, looking into the Pro4 motor and some other upgrades. Don't want to get rid of it so more power and handling it is...

wraith can go fast and handle pretty good on budget.

150 trackstar esc and turnigy 2100 kv 1/8 scale motor. combo cost 100 bucks.

this is on 6s 14/56 32p gears, 20 tooth pinion is quite alot faster faster and doesnt produce any motor heat. this combo has been tearing my tranny apart. combo alsocrawls well on 2 and 3 cell and is not sensored. 4 cell it bashes pretty dang well and may be all you need to get around the track

slash 4wd is cool but would pass on the 2wd slash myswell just have rustler then

4wd slash is probly the best rig traxxas has ever put out

ive been more into crawling latly and have been thinking about going to 60 tooth spur. the motor esc combo is smooth byut i think would would smoother with a 60 tooth spur. 3s is smoother then 2s.

i cant fit any smaller then a 14 pinion with a 56 spur motor hits the tranny. maybe with a 60 spur i can go 12 or 11 pinion anbd smooth out the bottom end alot.

for 100 bycks you damn near cant lose with this combo. it does take alittle modding of the skideplate to fit.
