Default Trail Monkeys: Norwegian Wraith build [picture heavy]

First I must say that I have been reading on this forum for quite a few months already, and I have found a lot of useful information! Great forum!

I have been racing with 1:10 2wd buggy and 1:10 touring cars for several years now, and felt it was about time to try something new. Besides, I felt it was too much waiting for little actual drivint time to continue with buggy racing. So me and a couple of friends started talking about crawling/trailing rigs. One thing led to another, and suddenly a friend had bought a Summit. Not quite the route I wanted to go, so a little more investigation and I found Axial Wraith and soon after this forum.

I ordered a Wraith kit, and a tekin rs/redline 13.5T combo. (actually I ordered two of these, but a friend wanted one of them).

This was in october/november last year, and it didn't go a very long time before I started upgrading things that wasn't quite good enough.

Right now this is the specs:
-Tekin RS
-Tekin Redline 13.5T with 13.0mm HT rotor
-Savox SC-1256tg
-Axial heavy duty servo horn
-2.2 RC4WD steelies
-2.2 RC4WD mudslingers for trailing & Proline 2.8 padle wheels for snow.
-battery forward mod
-6000mAh 3S LiPo
-Castle BEC
-RC4WD KING shocks (110mm), a LOT of flex!
-32P spur/pinion with 60/13
-Outerwear sock on motor
-Plastidiped everything

Controlling everyting with a Futaba 3PKS. Continiously modding the wraith, so I will try to post pictures as it develops.

And now over to the part you all love; pictures:

Building the kit:

The car was looking this good until the first time I tried it in a rock quarry:

Sorry about varying quality on the pictures, some are taken with a mobile, and some with a canon 550d.

Wraith looks good with the Steelies.

What is the purpose of the hemp rope one bumper/cage?

Definitely a sharp looking Wraith! How well do the Kings work flex and stiffness wise? Are they stiffer or softrr then stock?

Thanks for the comments.

The hemp is there purely for looks. The plan is to make steel panels for it, and let them rust. So going for a combination of mad max/zoombie hunter/rat look.

The Kings work great flex wise. I was very sceptical at first, because they are way softer than the stocks. But after some measuring of the springs, compared to the stocks, they are almost the same springrate. However, the shock is smaller in diameter, so much of the difference is there. Right now I'm at 42.5 oil, but have some 50-80 oil in the mail, still think thikker oil is the key.
However, after trying the kings in the woods, and on the trails, I found them way better than stocks. They keep all the wheels in contact with the ground all the time.
For the proline paddle wheels, I need to change to stock shocks though. The kings are to soft for high speed bashing...

We are now 2 Wraiths, one Honcho and one Summit on the trails. But there's 1 more Wraith and 1 TF2 in the mail, and probably two more honchos soon to be ordered.

I find it nice to see pictures from rigs in other parts of the world too. Interesting too see other kind of terrain, rigs and so on.

Going outside now to test the proline 2.8 paddle wheels in the snow, hopefully I will have some pictures and maybe a film later.

The picture quality is great! Is there anyway you could post a video or two of the group? Would love to see some live action on the great terrain you guys have. I am debating on a wraith and plan to trail similar to your style. Are you happy with your build? Or do you wish you went with a honcho or tf2.

We are working to set up a youtube account for the Trail Monkeys RC atm. However, a couple of friends have posted a few videos already:
Scx10 on a Construction site - YouTube
Snow Trailing at Night - YouTube
Trail Monkeys RC Stongafjellet 001 Short - YouTube

I am very happy with my build, the brushless setup have plenty of power yet a lot of low speed controlability. The mudslingers give me a lot of grip in the trailing surfaces we usually run on, so really happy.

I haven't tried TF2 yet, but in about a month or so you can ask me again
Honcho is a quite different car to drive than wraith, it has a high centre of gravity and less flex, so it tips over more easily. But most of the time it gets around just as good as the wraith, just have to choose differend lines as you go.

I will probably get a honcho for my wife later, as she wants a pink scale looker

Got my Level3-rc lowering kit on monday! So already mounted and tested, lowering the CoG really did the trick. I also did some other minor tricks, raised the front steering link to give me more ground clearance and give me more turn angle.

6000mAh 3S Turnigy LiPo up front, barely fitting in there.

Hood with home-made straps:

dinky fuelcell with esc in the rear:

MOVE!

Hasta la vista, baby

Oh, and I also have ordered a BGR Trailmound front bumper! Really looking forward to have that on the Wraith.
I also vanted the koh cage with V1 rear bumper (no carrier), but that will have to wait until spring. But my wife is giving me a hard time with me spending so much money on this now..

Wow, it's been 2 months since last update.
A lot of things have happened:
-Finished the steel panels and hood
-white dot rovers for crawling
-Axial HD UD gears
-Beef tubes (home made)
-Hitec 7950 (savox died a slow agonising death)
-VP 10pc link set
-BGR front trailbar
-Dinky RC rear tub

Some pictures:

Trailing with a fellow Wraith:

Beef tubes, made from duplex tubing:

Another Trailing run:

Exo radiator:

Dinky RC tub:

Moved the ESC to the underside of the tub:

Here's how she sits now, with mudslingers for muddy days in the forrest:

The KING shock was "Chuck Norrised"

A.K.A. My dog named Chuck Norris, with some help from a stick, bendt the shock. Temporary fixed by straighten the rod again...

I have a Bronco body waiting on the shelf also, but not sure about the paint theme yet, so it can stay there for now. Any suggestions?

Just received hardware kit from Harley, and waiting for some CI double deuce foams for the rovers also, and some new framerails.
Bendt the BGR trailbar and broke the frame on a nasty rollover.
