Project "Wringo" - 1.9 Wraith + Dingo

So, while building my EZ-JK 2Dr, I bought a dingo body to use the cage and interior, leaving me with a shell of the rest of the body. I threw it on the bench and it landed on my wraith... then the light bulb went on: Why not put the dingo body on the wraith?

Here's what that looked like:

If you kind of ignore the wraith axles and 2.2 flat irons, you can see the body fits pretty well. There was some mods I needed to make, but overall, fits good and looks right. I don't think I'm the first to do this, but I couldn't find any pics or threads of other wringos.

I've got a spare set of SCX axles and tires which will end up under this (with the wheelbase matching the body, btw) and I've got a full wraith cage/interior on it's way, so, I only need to figure out transmission and driveshafts.

I'm trying to decide on a color, but leaning towards something darker, like a dark grey, welcome to suggestions.

I've got the cage coming tomorrow, and will get some better mock up pics with the right axles and tires.

Got the chassis in, put the body on and started measuring for links and wheelbase:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps4ab1efe0.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psd5dcc870.jpg

This is pretty much the wheelbase, and of course ride height will be higher (this will be full compression though) and these are the wheels/tires I'll be using.

Now I need to figure out paint, links and drivetrain...

More soon.

Almost looks like old school Datsun rally car!

Looks sweet man. Does look like an older rally, hill climb, Pikes Peak type ride. Im digging it though..

Thanks guys! I didn't see the old school rally look at first, but I can see what you are talking about. Once paint is on, and the dingo decals go on, it will be less rally looking.

I'll have some progress updates soon.

Agree... took it off. Will probably go topless, or a simple top just over the passenger area.

Thanks!

I started some paint, but the can I had was either too old or too cold, and the paint went on horribly. So, I had to cover it up. I painted the outside black, and will just go with the murdered out look to it. I still need to trim the body, but wanted to get it on to see what it looked like all painted up.

I still need to get some front upper links going, and mount the electronics. Then I need to figure out sliders and bumpers. Eventually I'll add lights and more scale items. I might use the 1.7 iroks on 1.9 walker evans in the backround of the pics to make this C1 legal, but not completely sure on that yet.

More soon!

I really like the Dingo body!! Thanks for posting your Wringo!! You inspire others now!! I would love to try that. I think I would keep the 2.2s on my Wraith just for the fun factor. :)

If you do build it, post a link here, I'd love to see it...

Maybe something like this?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps4b6f6007.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pseb941374.jpg

I put the 1.7 iroks on to see what they would look like:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps205c64ab.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psc9097f8e.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psf48c2dd4.jpg

I think I like it this way, but would want to drop the ride height a little. Kind of makes the tires get lost in the fenders. I'd probably go to a half droop or 1/4 droop set up... Needs to come down about an inch...

Wow 2.2s don't work so well I guess with the way you modded your suspension. :) You have to post pics of the suspension mods. Was it easy to do? I like the look on the stock Wraith suspension but I can see the front fenders and front end would need some hacking. :)

Keep up the good work and the pics!! It is nice to see them all.

I will post pics of the front suspension once I get it all figured out.

Got the ride height down a bit:

See attached pics - Photobucket not working right...

Just did shorter springs, but too short for my tastes. The ride height is right, but the preload collar is all the way down. I will look at some springs at the LHS to find the right rate and length, but for mockup these will do just fine.

Also got the servo mounted, but need to get an upper link mount figured out so that I can get the front upper links done.

More to come...

Got some more done to this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps7f19d3eb.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps4b6fb2b1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps480c27d9.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps10e85d7a.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps8b2b818e.jpg

Settled on using SCX10 Shocks, and I got the links figured out. Also settled on some G8 Flat Irons on Walker Evans non-beadlocks. Just need to get some electronics mounted and find/make a roof to get this ready to run.

One awesome benefit that I found is that as of the above pictures, this thing weighs 3 lbs 12 oz. How's that for a lightweight rig? Electronics aren't going to be too much more weight, and should end up at under 5 lbs all said and done.
There's a comp on the 9th that I am going to try to have this ready for, so hopefully that will give me the motivation to finish this up.

More soon...

Did you shorten the wheel base? It looks really short.

It also looks very 'german' if you know what I mean. Because of the black

Wheelbase is just a tad over 11.5", stock Dingo wheelbase is 11.4". For the body, the wheelbase is correct. This makes the front links really short though.

Not sure I know what you mean, but I didn't really get the Datsun drifter reference earlier either. Maybe because it somewhat looks like a g-wagen?
