Higher ratio gears will in reality put more strain on the rest of the drivetrain. UD gears which are lower gears would take some of the strain off of the rest of the system. You can get wheel speed by changing your pinion to a larger one. Or the by installing a faster motor.

I finished my latest Wraith and realized I had a set of dogbones, knuckles, chubs, steering linkage, and servo. I just need bearings and a servo mount for the rear axle. So, I'm considering giving rear steer a try too.

I have a FS-GT3C so I was going to set it up for thumb button to switch on/off/crab and then have one of the trims set to dual rate or expo for the rear (need to play around). So, you could be running in 4ws with the expo set pretty high so you could steer as much as 75% in front and not get much travel in the back. Then when you turn the wheel the rest of the way, the back end swings around.

Where you referring to what I said? We were saying the same thing.

Yes, but he asked this after your response so I brought it up again.

well i get the deal about less strain using ud gears,, but you didnt answer my question about getting more wheel speed with od/od you simply said to change things that are obvious to change to get wheel speed,, it was just a simple question of does it? no need to tell people a different way o doing it and ignore there question completely,,

no wonder it takes so much searching to find good info on these forums! everyone gives a bullshit answer and quotes other bullshit answers with more bullshit,,

Yes, you will get a higher speed with a numerically lower ratio.

BTW, here's your answer right in the description of the product:

whats the advantage of running OD up front and UD in the rear? thats what yall are talking about right?

and

would that be possibe with the Gmade R1 portal axles because ive yet to find different ring/pinion gears for it?

So would this setup be correct for strictly Crawling??

Front Axle: (36/14) Over Drive?
Rear Axle: (43/13) Under Drive?

I'll take a shot at answering this, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

If you take a truck, crank the front wheels in one direction and drive in a complete circle. Since the rear tires are following the front tires they will travel a slightly shorter distance. Running od/ud gears will rotate the front wheels faster compensating for the difference in distance. Even if you don't turn in a complete circle the rear tires travel a shorter distance than the front.

The other advantage of rotating the front tires faster is it creates a slight tension between front and rear which can help climbing. Unfortunately this tension puts strain on the drivetrain which can kill motors.

The R1 axles seem to be ignored by aftermarket like a fat girl before happyhour so there isn't a bolt on od/ud. You may be able to replace the portal gears with pinion gears to change the ratio and get od/ud

Underdrive and dig has worked well for me, but if you are going to be driving pretty fast often(especially on pavement, which my Wraith has never seen) you'll want to use the same gear ratio front & rear like others have said.

I don't think that having your tires swing back around when you crank the wheel all the way... take the Honda prelude 2000 mechanical all wheel steering. the tires turn the same way for 75% of turning radius, then for last 25% they turn the opposite way. only under 25mph this only works because of slow speeds (according to the scale of vehicle) and the fact it will be on a road full time. crawling the pressure put on steering will either burn up a servo or the wheel just 2ont turn... if you have done it please let me know if like to hear how it went or what u gonna do.

I prefer OD/UD with 4ws. It has helped with lines that others with dig cannot do. Take your time and set the end points so the 4ws and crab will track correctly. I would avoid using it until I took the time to set the steering throw.
