Default What to get? Help me decide.

Hey all,

So recently I've been wanting to get the rc4wd 2 speed trans because I'm a little tired of a max speed of 4mph. My current set up is a HH 35t expert motor with the HH brxl esc. The crawlability is great but I want some more speed for hill climbs and what not. My question now is do I get 2 speed trans or just get the tekin roc 412 along with a compatible esc?

If I go the 2 speed route I need

2 speed trans-$130
3 channel remote and reciever-$50-$150
hitec servo-$30
12t pinion gear-$8

If I go brushless I need

tekin roc 412-$150
rs or rx8 esc-$150
32p pinion and spur-$20
diff gears?

I already have metal gears in trans and steel driveshafts. Would I need upgraded the differential gears if I went the brushless route?

I love crawling but like I said I want some more wheel speed. I'm looking for the top speed to be around the stock wraith. Lastly I will be running 2s lipo 5000mah since I already have 5 of them and don't want to buy more.

One of my concerns with the 2 speed trans is that the 2nd gear will be too high since it is 1.78:1. Am I wrong?

Which route would you guys take? Thanks everyone!

Shayn

The Tekin Pro4 3300 is a great choce too... with a used MMP you'll save some money.

2 speeds are fun but I hardly use my 2nd gear with the Pro4.
I know a lot of people have a hard time keeping their shift servo dialed in.

Well if I get the tekin roc 412 I planned on sticking with the single speed. If I stay brushed then I'd go for the 2 speed. I have read about dialing it in is sometimes a pain. Thanks for your opinion.

I should have been more clear.

I have an SCX10 based rig with Axial trans and Tekin Pro4 3300 on 3s, I love it!
It's a great balance between torque and wheel speed.

I have an AR60 based rig with Summit 2 speed trans and Pro4 4000 and it's got great torque in 1st gear with plenty of wheel speed... 2nd gear is just insane!

I see what you mean now. Its still hard to decide. I'm leaning more towards the brushless except for the additional price. So tempting though! How smooth will the pro4 be compared to my current set up? Any knowledge there?

smooth as butter!
It's even smoother than my previous setup.
I was running what I consider to be the best brushed motor that was on the market, a Holmes Hobbies 14t Puller on 6s and that was smooth... the Pro4 is better.

Holly hell! Looks like I need to save up some money haha. Would you recommend upgrading anything in the axles?

If you want bomb proof go with Robinson Racing gears in the trans with 1 piece output and MIP driveshafts.

That should keep your drivetrain together...
of course, there are several other mods/upgrades to improve overall durability.

Why should I go with the MMP like you recommended over the rs or rx8?

no reason except they seem to be cheaper used.

The Tekin is much smaller so that's an advantage over the MMP.

But, I've also read that several people have killed them during the soldering process... the MMP come's with all leads already soldered on.
I believe in those cases, Tekin has replaced the esc.

Yea I'm not the best at soldering so the mmp sounds a little better. I don't mind the extra volume.
