i just ordered 3 seperate styles and lengths of servo arms hoping to find something tough enough to hold up to the weight of this thing.

ive used the beefy plastic horns that come with the hitecs for years, i just trim them down to fit whatever length ive needed. but yesterday i blew 3 of them jumping tree stumps. i blew 2 on this wraith and one on my c2. i like how its sort of a fuseable link, but i dont want that happening at the rc4wd event...

center to center i needed something a tad over an inch, so the usual suspects like the robitronics wont work... (a shorter horn will cause the drag link to contact the winch plate before the steering arms get to full lock)

i got some hangar 9 double clamps, some airwilds, and some mpi's. being this close to the event, i dont want to mess around and order something that isnt gonna work. im hoping one out of these three will work. got the 1" versions as well as longer ones i can maybe trim down.

i would LOVE to see a freaking steel or titanium, bulletproof servo horn thats about 1.125" c to c.

Haha dude! You spent like.. $50 on 3 horns!

I just ordered another one of the Hangar 9 horns from eBay. Incase I need a spare.

spent more than that... 6 arms each from 3 manufacturers, one around 1" and the others longer so i can trim them down.

i just want to find a solid horn. and its hard to know for sure from reading and searching without seeing them in person.

im still waiting on the airwilds, which i have high hopes for. ive got the mpis and the 2" hangar9's (still waiting on the 1" hangar9's)

so-far... the 2" hangar9 is freaking beef... i think that servo horn cut down is the hot ticket for what i was looking for.

holy shit.. I didn't see that monster. Yeah, chop it down to desired length, drill & tap.. done. I'm gonna have to get me some of those.

Standard hardware for the clamping but, meh.

its total beef, but the slot that runs down the horn goes about 7/8" or so, so if your center to center is less than that, the 2" would be useless.

im not at home now or i could measure it exactly. its around 7/8".

the mpi ones are also very nice, but compared to the 2" hangar9 they look puny.

rick if you need measurements shoot me a pm.

Doesn't look super heavy. Wouldn't be surisef if its lighter then you think.

I don't believe axial makes a long aluminum servo arm/horn. We're trying to find a good heavy duty AND long servo arm/horn. There are plenty of good short aluminum servo arms/horns available.

Yeah. I don't think that big 2" horn is "heavy".. when I say "beef" I mean.. strong. Like, describing strength more so than weight. It probably weighs less than 10 grams.

that looks good.

the airwild horns showed up today, when i get home i'll set them all out side by side for comparison. still waiting on the 1" hangar9 horns.

the thing im liking about the airwilds is that the horn section drops down flush with the backside of the horn, close to the servo. this design keeps alot of the torque applied to the horn closest to the bearing as possible. (and for timmy means i can get the drag link rod end tucked up nice and tight into the chassis...)

no clamping to the splines, but i read that they match up pretty good and arent sloppy.

pretty sure i'll use the airwild on timmy, and a cut down hangar9 2" for this scaleready wraith.

non-clamping? pssshh old technology!

I run the 1" Hangar9.. it's good and all except for my application, I had to grind down the big square head it has into a more rounder shape to fit where I needed it.

I'd like to see the comparison pictures.

ill take some pics this weekend.

the non clamping 1" airwild is what i used on this wraith. i like the design that moves the rod end closest to the servo bearing, and its total beef. it's a VERY tight fit on the hitec splines, i had to tighten down the horn with the screw to get it snugged down. the servo was in the rig so i didnt have alot of leverage, but all the same i couldn't push it on with my fingers.

naw, i just painted over the hood that came with the rig.

i do like those cfm aluminum hoods tho... maybe later in this rigs life i'll do the metal body thing.

i have a new lexan wraith body kit i'll trim up and get on this rig before the august rc4wd event.

finally got the 1" hangar9. they are nice, but to make a 1:1 comparison it seems to me a pair of vicegrips on the splines of a steering box arent going to hold as strongly as a full circumfrence (sp?) splined arm that is a compression fit.

will take pics tonight of all the arms ive spent my money on when i get home. maybe it will help others who search the board for beefy long servo arms or a beefier option to the robitronics arms.

ok, so i unpackaged some perfectly packaged servos...

from left to right:
blue hitec arm
plastic stocker hitec arm
beefier hitec arm
twin hitec arm with one end cut off

racers edge pro hard anodized arm
airwild MLP 1" arm
mpi maxx 1" arm
hangar 9 1" arm
mpi maxx 1.5" arm
airwild MLP 3" arm (the single 1.5" wasnt in stock)
hangar 9 2" arm

i suspect that the mpi and hangar 9 arms are made by the same company from the "HTC" printed on the side. there are design differences, but basically the mpi is a single pinch and the hangar 9 is double pinch.

so yeah... those are some servo arms.

im gonna flog the hell out of the 1" airwild to make sure it will hold up. i feel the splines will be fine without clamping from how snug the arm went on, and i really like the design of the arm.

but if i lunch it, im hacking down one of those hangar 2" arms. that thing is a monster. ;)

I see what you mean about that airwild horn.. how it's designed with arm being offset in towards the servo.. I like that design.. It should work well.

with my current front bumper revision, I am able to fit the unmodified 1" H9 horn.. awww yeaa.. dual clamping screws!

which horn are you using on your class2 zuk (timmy) and which are you using on the class3 SR Wraith?

im using the airwild 1" on the wraith, going to trim down the 2" hangar9 down to 1 1/8th c to c for the c2.

trimmed down the 2" hangar9 to fit in my c2, here it is compared to the 1".

its pretty beefy around the splines, and sits all the way down in the servo output. the clamp slot and relief hole are only 5/8" from the spline screw, not the 7/8" i estimated a few posts back.
