Default What to use to change to 32 pitch or stronger spur

I stripped my stock spur.
I changed the gearing out of the box and set mesh like I do with my 1/10 race vehicles. Never striped one.
Its got the stock motor
Stock spur and a 17 pinion from axial.

I want to changed to 32 pitch or a lot stronger 48 pitch ine.

Go to 32p traxxas maxes one that fits as well as the duratrax evader nitro steel gear fits as well.

You can swap to a 32p setup for about $8 and it is much better than the stock 48p setup. A Duratrax spur is like $3-4 and a RRP pinion is about $3-3.50.

Here's the part number for a duratrax 56 tooth from rpp it's $3.59 DTXC9397
it's for a nitro evader.. To keep about the same gearing a 12t pinion would be very close
I used a 60 tooth on mine but the cover won't fit..

^ I'm thinking about this changeout as well... But I'm thinking a 60t spur and a 9pinion.

Will the 60t not fit under the stock cover?

Edit... Sorry for the hijack

No the 60t won't fit. I had to sand my cover a bit to clear the 56t.

Is the cover even necessary?

No, but it does help keep rocks and debris out of the gears. I never ran one though, because I liked being able to check the gears for damage if I heared any noises or just to inspect them for wear.Beats dropping the skid and pulling the cover every time just to inspect the gears.

I stripped mine a few days ago as well glad to see this thread started I was about to ask the same question. Mine still works but the noise is bothersome

I want to run the DuraTrax 32P 56T Spur Gear #9397, because I know I can still put the cover back on. My question to you guys is:

Who makes a 32P pinion that has the gear mesh area wider than the spur (5mm)? I want the pinion to have complete gear engagement on the spur.

The widest Robinson Racing pinion I have (0140 14T) is only 4.3mm. Some of the Traxxas (3mm shaft) pinions look really wide and they have 12T, 13T and 14T, can someone confirm the width.

Thank you in advance for any help you guys can give me, since I can't seem to get to my LHS before they close.
