And beings these rigs are locked front and rear its okay for a tire to have air under it because unlike an open diff rig it will keep all four spinning. All crazy flex does is get your tires bound in places you don't want them and if its soft enough body roll when trying to climb IMHO

No not really.

If you're lifting a tire you're not as stable. Higher chance of tipping it over.
I agree about if its too soft that can create problems 100% but lifting a tire is not a good thing.

Sometimes I think mine has got too much but it's not a hardcore rock crawler so it's not like it twists itself into a pretzel, which is what can happen with too much. The wide stance and big tires tends to mask some of the problems caused by a lot of flex. Someone asked why wouldn't you want more flex so all for tires are always contacting the ground. These rigs don't weigh very much so if there are only 3 tires making contact, they actually have MORE traction because the weight is being distributed among a smaller overall area by the 3 tires.

This is the only shot I think I've got with mine completely flexed out.

They are Traxxas big bore shocks. They have slightly shorter rod ends on the shafts and the rear shock tower is flipped up. The rear shocks are also limited on the up travel so the rear can't bottom out so far. Makes it more stable when the suspension is twisted up.

I have seen this discussed in the 1 to1 realm when arguments get started over tire widths. Did you actually do the math to determine what the difference in the coefficient of traction is with 3 wheels vs 4?

My math is a bit rusty, but I'm sure other people would be interested.

i dont think there is much of a difference between wide and skinny tires. skinny tires put force to a smaller area but wider tires distribute the weight better and tend to float over loose terrain.

the math?
weight of rig / 4 = < than weight of rig / 3

If you divide the weight of the rig by 3 rather than 4 the amount of weight on each wheel will always be more.

That is only the difference in weight on each tire. Does the amount of frictional force you gain by having more weight on each tire( for 3 tires) equal a greater amount of friction then 4 tires with less weight?

Yes more weight per tire = more traction per tire

seems simple enough to me, maybe I am a dumba$$ (wouldn't be the first time.)

You are correct that more weight equals more traction on each individual tire. I'm just not so sure that the amount of traction gained on those 3 wheels is equal or greater to losing one complete tires worth of traction.

Again seems obvious the greater surface area of 4 tires would be more traction than 3 with more weight.
I don't think anyone is debating whether 3 or 4 tires have more traction, more like whether more flex than needed is better than just enough.

No weight in the wheels and AX10 shocks, battery up front. Not massive amounts of flex but it handles just about everything.

I suck at math, all I know is it's just how it works out on the trails. I have observed it with my own eyes and from 5 years of experience driving rock crawlers and scale trucks A LOT and studying how they actually handle I've seen countless times how effective it is to carry a tire over a crevice and sometimes *forcing* a front tire up high and making the other front *float* suddenly gives the traction needed for forward momentum.. It's one of those things that you just learn and observe from driving.

Not a ton of flex, but I thought it was a cool shot.
