G made 103 piggy backs

I bought a set of the G made 103 piggy back shocks for my Wraith, it's a heavy rig at about 10 lbs, and is used to trail drive and rock crawling, I love the look of the shocks, and at first I liked how they performed but now at the end of summer they leak, I have pulled them and refilled them once this year because of leaking, mainly 2 of them are the offenders, but they all leak, any tips or hints on how to stop the leaks?? they do use what I thought was a nice double O ring seal at the bottom, I think I'm running 30 w oil in them right now, and if I can't stop the leak what is a good shock to run that does not have this issue?? or do you just deal with leaks.

When you rebuild them make sure to oil the O rings when you install them it is a very important step to get them not to leak. I have the same set with no leaks and remember depending on how hard you drive and how heavy you are is how often you will have to do maintenance. All shocks will require maintenance every so often, if that doesn't work buy proline shocks, for the abuse there is nothing better. IMO

I too have these shocks and also had leaks. Reading through the forum, it was apparent that putting lube on the Orings and slowly pushing the shaft through was the trick. So I rebuilt mine this way and no more leaks! They have only been on my wraith about a month... But they were on my exo since March so I'm pretty sure they are good to go at this point.

When I built them the first time I lubed everything, nothing was put together dry, when you say you rebuilt them, are you installing new O rings? if so where are you getting the new O rings? hardware store??

I want to say they are made by Losi. I went to my LHS and said I needed Orings, and they said "use these square ones, they are better". So I did. I can possibly get a part #.

If you could get the part no. of the O ring you used that would be great, I really don't want to buy another set of shocks, Nigel I thought about that, I have some here....LOL I also thought of a bit of brake fluid to swell the O rings up, but would rather fix it right.

No, Associated green slime. Can get it at most hobby stores or eBay for a few bucks. It comes in a real small tube. Its good stuff.

Ok do you add just a little to each shock as you fill with oil?? Just looked it up, and ordered a tube, I'll give it a try cheaper than shocks, now what weight oil do you all recommend?? like I said it's a 10 lb rig that trail drives and rock crawls, I only have a brushed set up in it, so no high speed runs

No, you need to disassemble your shocks and then coat each o-ring with it.
I'm just running the oil that came with the shocks in mine. I don't even remember what weight it is.

Also try lowering the pressure on the resovoir. More pressure more leaks. I use the fat associated pan car shock o-ring and 1 standard 3mm o-ring without putting the plastic spacer in between the stock o-rings. I also build the cartridges on the shaft rather than sliding the shaft through a built cartridge. That method of assembly eliminates cutting the o-rings on the sharp edges on the shafts. Buy the Losi green slime it comes in a larger tube. Every and I mean every shock o-ring absolutly must be coated in green slime prior to assembly!!!!

I'm very happy with how mine perform. Nice and smooth, and flex well at slower speeds with good high speed dampening.
