Did the tube pinch down on your blade as you cut it? I've seen steel tube do that a lot.

Not on the first side I cut. The slight wavy-ness you see in the pictures is me rushing to feed the tube onto the cutting wheel. I took my time on the other side and it doesn't look as bad.
When I got about halfway through the second side the cut side was flexing around a bit.
I thought about tacking the already cut side back together real quick but that was too much effort and kept cutting. :ror: Black paint is my friend.

I mocked it up and thought to myself.
"Oh yea, geometry does matter on 1:10scale rigs too. Let try again"

I wanted to steal the body from your house about two years ago when you weren't looking.

Simple flatbed with a headache rack and spares. You wouldn't wanna see my styrene box making skills.

No smoke but I do have a Diesel engine sound generator. "thumbsup" Thanks for reminding me it was in the parts bin.

Additional doggy weight is not included in the race day truck setup spec sheet. Toby stays in the pits.

2nd Chassis setup. Meh.

Szczerba 09-19-2013 12:26 PM

3rd chassis setup. Mucho betterer.

Snuck some Mattzilla 3 hole tabs on the subframe. 3 holes of upper link adjustment.
Lower cross bar is just sitting in place for now.

Trans mount made.

You won't have too long to wait. Gotta be ready to run by next Friday the 27th. :ror:

I started last week and have been taking photos along the way. I am out of pictures as of now.

I have cut and rewelded the MIP's to 6" for the driveshafts. Used 3/8", 0.04"something walled tube.

Next up is shock hoops and body mounting. Probably going to hinge the body up front with a small 5/32" rod frame.

1/4" and 3/8" tube should be at the house now for the sliders, headache rack and bed.

Szczerba 09-19-2013 05:13 PM

Upper link mounts mocked up.

Truck is looking killer. This is the Dakar truck I was thinking about:

Szczerba 09-19-2013 06:49 PM

Yep. Pretty close to my inspiration for this truck.
This is the one I found last month. Wont be doing a rear boxed section though.

Yep. The rear is about 1" longer than front, even with an extended rear TRANS output.

For scale? If it holds up through the Recon G6 in Hot Springs next weekend.

Szczerba 09-19-2013 09:26 PM

Most of chassis burned in.

Started on body mount
Setup. $2 hinge from Tractor Supply.
A support frame will tie it all together.

it's getting there...

I would add some supports for the body, that lil strip aint gonna hold after a few rollovers.
Maybe some supports like I added in pic to make use of the existing body post.

Been using Valuehobby Lipos for a few years now. Like them all and they are a great buy/value for the price.

The cab will have plenty of support. Going to use 1/4" Tube and RCP fab tabs to make a small support inner cage.

How do you like those valuehobby.com battery? Your build is coming along nicely, but I'd add some more support to the body mount. A couple rolovers and you'll fawk some shyt up.
