Apparently "Ultra" wasn't enough

. . . so this one's gonna be the ultimate. I'm gonna build this bad boy for the U4RC Ultimate racing series at Glen Helen. I got a kit and some goodies in the mail today from RPP:

Add some other goodies I've amassed and this should be one sweet rock racer.

The next race is on 10/5, let's see if I can be ready.

I'm going for strong yet light. I think the Level3 shock droop kit should help for this kinda race, too. Also, I'll use the stock Ripsaws for starters (hopefully I'll win some Pitbulls at the event!):lmao: It looks like they have some sweet swag they're gonna give away.

Here's a short video of a previous race at this track

Looks like a fun race!

Well from the looks of the event and terrain... different being sensored brushless, tough and lightweight is the ticket. Not many in the scaler world seem setup for that kind of event.

The course looks rather brutal, good luck on the build. Looking forward to see how she does "thumbsup" and vids of the next event.

Nah, you're right. There's nothing really special about this build really. It's different for me though because I've never spent so much money up front! My goal here is to document how it performs in this new kind of competition. And to spread the word about the U4RC. And to have a little fun.

I think this next race is gonna have more entrants, it seems like this thing is catching on. This will be my first time racing and I know I'm excited. I've never competed in a "race" before, though SC is how I started in this hobby so I have a little time on tracks.

I am going sensored brushless via MMP and Tekin Pro4 3500. I won't have much time to get the bugs out, so I hope I get lucky and set it up right the first time.
I'm gonna run a Savox SC-1232sg with a Castle bec, any thoughts on this anybody? It's pretty big, I may have to trim some chassis. We'll see.

I'm trying to make this pile of plastic a roller tonight, so I better get back to work. And if anybody has any advice I sure would appreciate it! Thanks

Pics before bed . . .

Pulled an all nighter to get this thing started. My secret weapon is Tombstone.
http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/...psb50eb82a.jpg

I got the axles together and the cage. I put the Level3 RC droop kit on. Man that was a lot of turns to get the screws in. And I used the RC4WD heavy duty bumper braces. The stock ones are pretty weak.

http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/...ps03bd4b3c.jpg

I'm gonna have to take to dremmel to the front bumper to clear the servo arm, otherwise everything is fitting fine.
http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/...psd95af1ab.jpg

I picked up some Helion aluminum SC schocks at the LHS. They seem pretty decent.

The stance is sweet.

Now I need to catch up on some family time. My next goal for this is to build the tranny tonight.

Ahhh I see.

The front lower control arms seem to hang way low. What would they look like flipped over?

I like budget minded shocks and savox servo.

Re: Apparently "Ultra" wasn't enough

I installed the links the other way too and they hung low at the skidplate end. I decided with the lower COG I should provide more clearance at the middle of the vehicle rather than near the tires.

The shocks are a good fit. I like the caps because they have a spacer built in. I haven't filled them yet but I'm thinking of going with a light oil.

Can't wait to see some video. Thats a lot of motor for a tight "brutal" track. How are you planning to fit and gear the 550?

Hey, contact VP about the servo posts. I had the same issue and they don't think there is a problem with them. Just let them know.

We'll see tonight about fitment. I'm not sure about gearing; stock is 80/20 but I'm gonna put 32p gears on. So I ordered some 48 and 50 spurs and 12 and 14 pinions. I guess I'll start with 50/14 and see how that is.

Ahh. That's my problem? I never put the stock plastic posts on so I'm assuming that they would be fine? I'll let VP know.

Looks more like they are 90 degrees out of phase then upside down. They should fit flat to allow the link ends to rotate properly during the suspension cycle.

You are correct sir. There's a video on Vanquish's site that shows how they're supposed to be oriented. Basically the offset is horizontal rather than vertical.

When you install as per VP, they limit steering. When installed as Snicklefritz, they work best, but VP really needs to make single bend lowers like their uppers for the Wraith. I like my straight steel Traxxas Revo Pushrods # 5319 best, cheap, strong, weight down low:

Those Helion aluminum shocks are looking good. :)

Dang! Those are cheap. Maybe cheaper than making your own. Do you use those on the rear too? How long have you been using them and have they been abused and proven their strength?

Re: Apparently "Ultra" wasn't enough

Those are 1/5 inch. That's teeny. And that's probably cheap steel. Breaky Breaky
