Still trying to decide on my motor and found this thread interesting. I was going to get the Hobbyking 3100KV motor brushless. But I can get like 3 or 4 of these Titan motors for the same price (Using MMA ESC). The Titan is brushed, no? Not looking for maintenance but if I can just beat on it until it dies and replace it maybe it's an idea. How long would this motor last without maintenance do you think? In the world of you get what you pay for how do these two stack up?

I think that motor was figured at being in the 25-28 turn range not 35. It is far to quick for a 35t motor.

Standard rotation on my RTR poison spyder.

On the second one now, very happy with the motor for the price.

I may have missed this, but my 550 traxxas motor won't fit into my chassis without trimming the lower link mount. I was thinking this was pretty much a drop in, tight, but no trimming. Have most of you had to remove material off of the link mount to get the motor to fit?

Yes. Or get the DMG tranny riser and deal with clearance to the interior.

Mine hits the lower link bolt. But I was able to get the tranny tight. Seems fine. I was thinking about just turning the bolt around. So the pan head is under the motor instead of the nut.
This is on a scx10. Can't say how it fits in a wraith.

The brushes on this thing are huge! After 3 packs they don't even look worn in yet

Love the motor.but the standard rotation has more speed in reverse than forward. The only problem was I had to cut the motor shaft to fit the gear cover. Best Bang for the Buck in brushed motors. I changed the bullet connectors for Dean's ultra and have no problems even on 3s

Flip your ring gears in the axles to correct the rotation. Then the motor will be going forward when you go forward and you won't wear out the motor from running it with the timing retarded.

Hey I'm trying 550 21T trx on my wrexo also, much more speed thans my previous setup but I have more heat :/

pitch 48p / 2S Lipo / Wrexo weight 3.7 Kg

before :
540 35T Holmes Hobbies torque master 16/87 5.44:1

Now :
550 21T Traxxas 23/80 3.48:1

I have 2 spur 80T and 87T and 4 pinion 16T 19T 20T 23T I have to try other ratio but the 550 size limited me (I only grind the lower link bolt for it)

any advice to calm down the heat ?

To lower the temp you need to lower the gear ratio, or numerically increase it.
I would target a ratio in the 4 - 4.5:1 range. Swap in the 19 or the 20 pinion gear and check the temps again.

LIttle Dremel sanding drum on the Wraith upper link mount and it fits right in....might need a slightly shorter link mount screw with a thinner nut too.

YES. My Wraith kit uses standard rotatation, SCX Honcho uses reverse rotation with mirrored tranny.

You're over geared...step it down to 20/87 48 pitch (13/56 32 pitch) or less, 3s would help too.

Hmm, I just bought a used wraith. The motor says 14V Titan on it. The seller said it's a 21T 550 Traxxas motor. The wraith is geared 80/20. It seems pretty weak, not really very fast and the motor gets SUPER hot. I have a TRX4 all stock that seems much more lively on the same packs. I have some 3S lipo batteries i made from milwaukee tool batteries and some 6 cell nimh batteries. The TRX runs well on either, the Wraith runs better on the 3S but still not great. It sounds like others are getting better performance from the same setup. I got here looking for motor suggestions to replace mine, but maybe the motor isn't the problem?? I was leaning toward a 550 can motor from Holmes, or maybe even a 750 mabuchi but i don't know much about that yet.

I ordered a set of pinions, 13-16T but the motor can't get close enough to the 80T spur for them to fit, so i'm waiting for an 87T spur to show up on monday. Maybe gearing down a bit will make all the difference.

It seems like maybe it's more powerful in reverse, but it's difficult to say. I tried switching motor leads and servo-reversing and i don't think it made a difference. I'm running the axial AE-5 esc, the light blinks red in either forward or reverse.
